My PC has an old old 500gig HDD in it. BF4 maps load in 5 mins so I think the read speed is poor...

can anyone recommend a good HDD and SDD? Was planning on reinstalling win 7 OS on the SDD then sticking BF4 on it to? use HDD for other storage.

my board is an MSI P67A-GD53.

also noobs guide to running multiple HDDs would be appreciated! :p

SSD - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - around £130
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1TB - around £50

you can run few HDDs no problemo, just plug them in and format before 1st use.

Cool ta. from trawling around a bit it seems the thing to do is have the HDD disconnected to start. plug SDD in, install windows and then hook up the HDD?

would you think 250gig on the SDD is a bit OTT, or is the price saving not much when you drop down now?

I'd go with a 128gb, purely for the price difference (probably about a £50-60 difference.) I think most (including me) put just Windows and main programs (internet etc) on the SSD and the rest (files, larger programs etc) on the HDD which works quite well - keeps the SSD clean and fast for just the base components of your computer.

no SSD is big enough. with current prices I'd say for average user, ~250GB is the sweetspot.

I've never had trouble installing on SSD with all HDDs plugged in, but some do it that way and it also eliminates chance of accidentally formatting drive full of data.

It'll be full in no time. You also don't want to run SSD full as it degrades the performance. If you have the extra cash, seriously, get the 250GB.

Desktop kit comes with adapter, Basic kit is bare drive, but tbh I have SSD just sitting on top of DVD drive. It's flash, it doesn't care. I have adapter I bought and never used. But if you like things neat and organized, yeah.
