Yeah, this is getting louder and faster, and more frequent...

Edit: Yep, I'm transferring some large files back now and it keeps revving up then silent, then revving up again. I'ts totally unbearable. I read somewhere a firmware upgrade could fix the clicking, but I have no idea how to flash it, or if that would void my RMA?

It does not sound like the click of death, saying that I don't own a single seagate drive though so can't realy say if that clicking is a problem.
I think its best to ask in Seagate forum, I'm sure they can give you an answer.

It's really unbearable sometimes even if there isn't a problem with the drive. I can't even record with it in because the mic picks it up like a hammer.

We get through stacks of these new seagate drives at work, they do seem to make the odd click here and there which worried me at first but we've never had a problem touch wood..

If you transfer some files and look at the transfer speed does it seem to drop / hang when it's doing this clicking?

I'll test that tomorrow :)

If I do have to RMA it, can I choose a different brand, even if I have to pay more towards it or must I have the same model? It's weird because I've had my 500GB Barracuda for about 2-3 years and it never clicks :/

seagates are notoriously noisy, they are reliable but sound like a bag of nails, ive always gone for samsung drives f4 2tb and f3 1tb if you can get hold of them, they are utterly silent,i think theres a tool that lets you adjust the noise dampening or something liek that for seagate drives,it will quieten it

If you only just bought it, and you are not happy with how it's performing, ie; you think it's faulty, i would have thought you'd be entitled to a refund at the least, then tell them you wish to buy a different one and add more/less money for the replacement. i know personally, i wouldn't be happy with that clicking all the time.

Weird thing is, it seems to be fine all of today. I ran a short and long test in SeaTools and passed fine, and I haven't heard a sound from it today even when transferring GB's of files. The only time I may hear a noise is the heads parking which doesn't bother me. Wonder why it was doing that yesterday lol xD

Speaking of transfer rates, I've been testing it by using a 12GB folder which is full of video files. Now, it starts at 165MB a second, then slowly drops all the way to 65MB, althouh I have seen it fall to around 24MB at one point yesterday. And that's when moving it to my other drive or copying to itself.

And finally, the firmware, is it safe to upgrade it?
