Hi, i want a SATA hard drive instead of an ATA(IDE?) harddrive for my new OS windows vista ultimate.
However with XP i had to install some drivers along with the windows installation. will i need to do this with vista?

Second, my PC has managed to eat 3 SATA harddrives all WD. my original was a raptor 10000rpm 72gb or something and from what i remeber it was godlike.
It broke after i was forced to hard boot.
Since then i have tried to purchase 2 other SATA HDD. but both of them had a problem where as soon as i switch my pc on it seems to mess them up and i get ticking noises and such. i am also so confused with the ocUK/WD return policy on who to send the HDD back to so i end up doing nothing and just waste £80-150 (probably over £200 all together).

I guess what i am really asking is.... if i were to buy a new SATA HDD (say a raptor 10000rpm 150gb) open it up from the package, give it power and transfer cable, load up the vista DVD i can straight install vista on to it 0 hassle.

And im sure atleast one of my harddisks is still in warrenty, anychance someone could find me the address or something as the return policys confuse the hell out of me and i never know who to send to. and i couldnt even manage to find an address to send the stuff back, i dunno im just really stupid i guess. its really annoying / worrying me anyway.

Yes it will work fine. Just may need to install drivers once its installed but it will load up with drivers that come with vista.
Cant help you with the returns policy tho sorry mate.

If the SATA controller is running in anything other than legacy (or AHCI if you're running Vista) then you need drivers for the controller. Vista comes with MS versions of drivers for most popular on board controllers but you're still better off replacing those either during the install or shortly after with ones from the mobo manufacturer. If your using XP then you'll need to supply drivers either on a floppy or from an nLite copy of the CD if the controller is running in anything other than legacy mode.
