New HDD not being Detected

Hi peeps,
I have just received my new Hdd from OCuk the Seagate barracuda 1TB iv put it in my machine and its not being detected. It shows up if I go into device manager but doesn't show in bios and doesn't show when you go into my computer either, my other hdd is a 60gb ocz agility3 ssd "windows drive" which is working fine I also have an external drive which I have been using the past year or so.

Anyone got any advice on this issue?

sounds like if you can see it in device manager then you need to open disk management and format the drive

This. Like most new drives you will need to format it first in Disk Management before you can use it.

Yeah that's what I am trying to do is format it, but its showing there and not letting me do anything to it :S I'll try again and see what happens maybe try a different sata port/cable just incase its abit dodgy

wheres it showing? in windows or disk manager?

if disk manager you need to assign a letter to the drive or initialise it

then it will show up in windows and let you access it

Thanks for the help total blonde moment from me haha, it was as wazza said which I had tried before but I was going into the wrong menu I was trying to do it threw properties

Right click - Initialise disk

In other news I have yet another dead (or rather dying) Seagate drive

Just over a year old and 3600 hours on the clock. Go Seagate :rolleyes:

What program did you use to read the SMART data?
