New HDD not found

Hi,

I have just bought a WD 2TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s Caviar Green Hard Drive - 64MB Cache - WD20EARX. In the bios of my motheboard it shows alongside my SSD but it doesn't appear in windows.

My motherboard is a Asus P7P55D iP55. Does anyone know why this would be? I am using this 2TB HD to replace a 500gb HD. When I plug the 500gb drive back in it shows in windows.

Is it something to do with the drive being sata3 and my motherboard being sata 2 (I thought they were backwards compatable!)

click start, type compmgmt.msc press enter, go to disk management and find it, it may need formatting

go to Computer Management ("search programs and files") / Storage. See what options you have there and if the drive shows up.

Click start
Right click on Computer
Click manage
Click Disk management

Format your new drive
