Hi, im currently using a 400GB Samsung drive as my main drive and three 500GB Samsund drives for storage and have decided i want a change to one boot drive and one for storage and maybe keep one of the 500GB drives for back up.

The main drive is getting more noisey and would prefer to change it before it goes bad.

So my question is what drive's to go for. I want the boot drive to be pretty quick and a storage drive atleast 1TB.

Pricewise i want to spend as little as possible as i will end up going for SSD once the price becomes a bit cheaper.

I have read about a single platter drive and partioning a bit off for the OS which will increase the speed.

As you can tell i do not know a lot about HDD's so any advice would be great thank you.

Get a Samsung green 1.5 T for around £75 and an Intel X25-M Mainstream 160GB SSD around £190 from which to run the OS (windows 7)

Well i have managed to get a Seagate 7200.12 500GB for the boot drive and im going to stick with my three Samsung 500GB drives for now. Once SSD's is a lot cheaper i will go for one

1.5TB is more than enough for everyday use. Even heavily gaming it's more than enough.

SSDs are too expensive right now, like you said.
