Hi,

Im just putting a new samsung sp160 sata drive into a system, but the moment i turn it on it wont post, its an ecs mainboard and shows the logo but will not go any further. When the system is on the other hdd it boots fine. Ive changed the power connector (its an old atx 1.1 psu, and does not have sata connectors), and changed the sata cable.

Do u recon the drive is just damaged, or is there anything else i can do?
Thanks for you help

hi guys, ive just been reading and the problem seems to be that the ecs board wont support sata 2. Is there any way you know to change the jumpers on my samsung hd161hj 160g hard drive so it runs in just sata mode? Thanks! I thought they were backwardly compatible!! ohh the boad is a ecs kv2 lite

Does the Sata drive have some pins on the back that you could put a jumper on? I think they look like :::: but could be wrong (all my seagates have them). If so, you need to put a jumper on (I thnk) the left side vertically, but I could be wrong. If not you will need to use samsungs utility to set it to SATA mode.
