Looking for a new HDD as mine has just gone pop. Its my windows drive but i cant justify spending so much on a raptor.

What do you recomend as im fed up of my hard drives dieing :(

Western Digital Sata2 16mb cache....

Always seem quieter then other drives in my experience, and they do just a good a job as any other.

Down to preference really, just avoid Maxtor, damn horrible drives.

This maxtor drive i have has been working for ages now :) Although abit noisy.

Exactly... lol

Thats why i love WD, never hear them, minus the Raptor which is proberly a little quieter or on par with the Maxtors.

Strange, my WD is as noisy as a 8" rat running around in its cage ball. I only went WD cause my bro recommended, next time its Samsung for me.

If its done that since day one you should have sent it back. I never hear my WD's. The day they become loud i'll stop buying them.

Maybe its a dodgy one then, when its reading-writting is when you can hear the arm moving. That horrible thrashing noise. Does my nut in.

Maybe it's case resonation thumbs up always for WD i'm still using 2 acient
ide 7200 drives still going strong 5 years on.Terrible resonation in my akasa eclipse case though.Dont really understand when seagate became the best or
samsung for that matter i think those in the know always get Wd.

The WD AAKS series drives are the quickest about at the moment (until the Hitachi 7K1000s arrive) but OCUK only have the 500Gb model. If you don't want something that large then the Seagate 7200.10s are available from 200Gb upwards and are only fractionally slower than the WDs, plus they have a 5 year warranty to the WD's 3 year.

well i needed a HDD quickly for the weekend - so i popped into town and got a samsung 80gb sata thingy from another retailer. £40 for it :( Not even a spinpoint i dont think. oh well -i will be RMAing my hitachi :)
