Hi,

I was recently given this product to test to see if we would list it on our website so thought I would give it a shot as I currently use Magic eye. I was expecting a lot of messing about and poor connection but this product impressed me.

As I said I use magic eye for my sky to go to the upstairs and the quality is poor and makes you feel like you have gone back in time as the quality has degraded a lot over the time I have had it. Having this box connected allowed me to have full HD on any of the TV's upstairs that it was connected to which is what every wants. I just stuck the box to the back of my TV to hide the box and the cables so you do not even know it is there.

The setup is really easy to use all you need to do is plug your sky/virgin/BT/media device into the HDMI box and then the HDMI box into the TV to allow normal streaming of your TV channels then with the other box you just attach it to the TV you wish to view you sky/virgin/BT/media device on and that is it.

The boxes come with IR Sensors so you can use the remote as normal.

The product will connect to anything with a HDMI connection i.e Playstation, XBOX, media boxes and CCTV are few examples. Please be aware that the consoles can be connected but the pads have a limited range on them as they link to the console. I would imagine that you would be able to use them as a media device if you had one of the remote accessories for the console as that may use the IR but I was not able to test this.

I was really impressed with this device and unlike other adapters like this that use Ethernet cables and HDMI and usually only reach 100m this device uses power through your plug socket so no need to route loads of cables. The reach on this is reported 300m however I was unable to test the full distance without knocking on a neighbours house.

The price is a little high but this is a long term investment as this is the sort of product you will use for a long time. The quality of the image it transfers is worth it in my opinion.

I have even added 2 free HDMI leads to the product so you should have no issues as soon as you get the product. Just plug and play it is that easy.

OcUK Professional HDMI Over Powerline Extender (HD-EXPLE) @ £239.99 inc VAT

The HDMI Powerline Extender allows you to transmit a HDMI signal over your existing power lines using the HDBitT transmission protocol. You can transmit your HDMI signal all around your house or office without the need to install any extra wiring (The signal will not pass the electric meter).

The Plug and Play design is very easy to use simply connect both units to the HDMI devices, connect the I/R adapters and plug them into the mains.

Simply connect the device you wish to view in another room to the box 1 and then connect box 1 to your main TV. Take box 2 to which ever room you wish to view the TV on box 1 and connect it straight to the TV and it will display in HD and you can also use the remote when the IR sensors are connected.

Features:

- Can use a power line to transmit the signal wherever there is a mains plug allowing full HD on any attached device.
- It can extend a 1080p @ 60Hz signal up to 300m
- Supports IR pass back
- Supports HDMI loop output from TX
- Easy setup, plug and play

Contents:

- Local/Remote Units
- Local/Remote IR Sensors
- Local/Remote Power Cables

interesting, thanks for the review.

is it me or are these a little on the expensive side or is it because its brand new tech?

I did say that when I was buying it but I think it is mainly as it is new and it is a very different way of transferring the signal which has not been done before.

Will these conflict with regular data powerline adapters such as the Devolo ones?

This is a good question. I have not tried it but it is a question I will be finding out the answer to so leave it with me.

And could one have 2 receivers? Although even if the answer is yes it's a bit rich for me.

I have not tried more than the current 2 boxes but I think having another box on the loop may causes issues and a little much. Would 3 rooms really be watching the same channel.

These have been tested using powerlines with Broadcom BCM60321 and Atheros AR7420 chipsets and have not caused any issues with either product.

How would knocking on your neighbours house help you? :p

Seems rather expensive but I guess new tech has its disadvantages - I wonder if using a HDMI over ethernet adaptor with powerlines would work

I now realise that my neighbours are not on the same power line so that statement would be pointless and maybe it was more for of a little failed comedy. Even though I can't test it 300m is still pretty good.

I loved it and it will last a long time so hopefully people will see it as a long term item that they will not need to change.

Seems like a great idea and I was very tempted to maybe buy a pair to bring my console to another TV in the house. But then I saw the price and I might as well just buy another console!!

Nice idea but way too expensive for what it does. I should add, too expensive for me, maybe not for other people.

........ prices steep, but a few minutes research will tell you that whilst there are several other brands out there offering the same point2point connection - the first 5 I looked at were all nearer £300 than OcUK's offering! Consider a subscription to Sky Multiroom or even Sky Q's boxes will likely do the same for less - so maybe consider that as a potential route if you need Sky spread throughout your home....
This won't work for me - simply because I watch Sky content in 2 locations other than the room where my Sky box sits.

Probably not but I wouldn't want to have to keep on unplugging, moving the box, and plugging in again to watch in another room.

I have my desktop pc upstairs and plasma tv downstairs with this technically i can send whatever is on the pc to my tv correct? I would love to play my games on my plasma, as i had to buy in the past console versions of games instead of the PC equivalent as i despise playing games on the 24inch monitor now i know there is a 51 inch TV downstairs. This could give my pc some more usage

No 4K right?

Hi, Yes you view your computer screen from the TV downstairs you just plug your computer into the box then box into your monitor and then the other box downstairs.

Not to put you off but you must have long keyboards and mice cables to play games downstairs :) It does not have USB connectors and I don't think wireless keyboards and mice will work over the IR sorry.

It only supports up to 1080p I believe.
