New Headphone recomendation

I suggest going to an audio shop, and trying some out to see which you like the sound and feel of best. Then buy those. Personally, I love my Grado SR325e with massive pads.

I've not heard any myself, but I've never heard any akg reviews praising their bass, I think they're more analytical/neutral
Warmer (bassier) brands would be denon/Beyerdynamic/sony/fostex/audeze obviously not an extensive list.

I have the AKG K550 MK11, HD650 & X2's. The bass on the AKG's is no less than the HD650's.

Unfortunatly thats not an option as the nearest Audio Store is 50 miles and 2 hours away not to mention £40 just to get there.

Just order a few from that rainforest place and send back the ones you don't like full refund

Not my style the only time i return products ive bought is if they are faulty, hence why im doing as much research as i can before ordering a set.

im afraid with headphones you can read as much as you like but in the end it comes down to how your ears work.

Nothing wrong in returning items you dont want from Amazon

I recommend watching some zeos pantera reviews on YouTube. You can get a good idea of good headphones for a certain budget, also tek syndicate.

Zeos is good on occasion, though he does have an obsession with the Fostex RP series but Tek Syndicate no, Logan is biased by whoever is waving the latest shiny thing under his nose and after that ridiculous "anti-soundcard" video should not be taken seriously.

Eh, soundcards useful in some situations. But generally, I wouldn't recommend them.

I agree, if virtual surround is desired then they are essential but if only straight stereo is needed then an external DAC and amp is "usually" going to be the better option. I say usually because I get more noise on my USB power lines than I do on my internal sound card (STX).
The Tek Syndicate video that started the anti-sound card ball rolling was laughable. His "expert" was pretty much just running a sales pitch for Mayflower, which was no shock, seeing as he is Mayflower and just because he assembles O2 amps (designed by NwAvGuy) doesn't mean he knows anything about amps and Dacs. His explanation of why high output impedance is a bad thing was probably the highlight where he said that "most sound cards eat up 10ohms of music" - WTF??? :o :D
Also he declares that the industry standard for the input impedance of headphones is 32ohms - says who? There is no standard.

As for Logan, he is a technical numpty, he's a marketing guy that knows very little about what makes technology tick.

Looked at a few reviews/ sound demos from zeos

Im now stuck between a couple of Cans, the Beyer DT770's which sounded quite good even on the timat 2.2 that i use as i turned everything on the sound card off so it was flat sound i got it, and the Sennhieser 650's

the problem i face now i think is do i be considerate and get the closed cans to prevent as much sound leakage as possible and allow my partner piece and quiet or do i go with the better sound stage etc of the open 650's and hope that the lower volumes i use on my PC dont leak too much sound that it disturbs her. ???????????????????????

and then there is price the DT770s are virtually 50% less money than the HD650's in the jungle.

Buy some of these for the other half

and some HD650's for yourself ;)

Well after much too ing and fro ing i think ive came up with a final plan of action.

To start with i think i will get the Beyerdynamics DT770 250 Ohm headphones and pair that with a Balios® Little Dot MK2 MKII 6J1 X2 6N6 X2. That whay i can have sound i should be able to enjoy without bringing down the wrath of She who must be Obeyed.

Then a little further down the line i will get myself a set of the Sennhiesier HD650 Headphones this way i can have all the quality and power i want whilst she is not present in the room and then Switch to the DT770's for when she is

DT770 solid pick for the price they go for now. I liked them from when i trialed them,

No idea how the DT770 will be with the Little Dot though

The other amp option ive been looking at is this
LINEP A929 Audio Headphone Amplifier Switcher

from what ive read appears to be a fairly decent small cheap entry level headphone amp

Or you could get a Schiit Magni 2 (£95) from here.

They are transparent, very highly regarded and will drive anything except maybe a HiFiMan HE6.

I'm personally using one right now along with the Schiit Modi USB DAC (£95), which you could add further down the road should you desire and use your U5 line out to feed the Magni in the mean time. It has a gain switch on the back and I use it for all my IEMs, low impedance Sonys, power hungry AKGs and voltage demanding HD650s - and they all sound fantastic.
