Hello guys

I am wanting to replace my quite awful BBD headphones with something decent. I listen to every kind of music. I want a balanced bass and treble, a nice crisp sound. The over the top bass on the BBD and quite awful sound as always bugged me so i want to avoid BBD altogether.

Budget is around £200

Been looking at Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 (wired) and went down to ***** hoping they had some on display but they didn't. Can anyone recommend?

Musts:
Over ear / sound cancelling
Android / Samsung Galaxy compatible
Crisp sound

Thanks

I'm going to take a wild stab and say BBD is Beats By Dre? :p

Momentum's can be a bit marmite, apparently. Would need a demo really, but that might be somewhat tricky, if the best place is your local vindaloo shop.

When you say android compatible, are you specifically talking about smartphone controls?

Sony MDR 1A might be worth considering. Rids57 has them, so will be able to give some more info if they appeal to you.

Have you tried richer sounds if you have local one they seem to have a lot of headphones in store and are not to bad on trying stuff out. They are saying they have the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 in stores worth shot

Wups, forgot you are not aloud to mention competitors.

Yeah Beat by dre, I got a pair when they was all the hype... Ok for bangin music but pretty toss for anything else. Where else would you be able to demo headphones? Only went to indian food place as they are the only shop that came to mind. the ones they had on display was wired into there own music and all had the exact same annoying buzzing sound.

Android because my phone is a Samsung galaxy S and next one will be another one. Noticed a lot of headsets either say iphone or android compatible.

Will have a look at the sony headphones.

Who is Rids57?

Thanks

Not sure Momentums will do it for you - while I don't have a lot of experience with the 2.0 variation treble is more towards smooth rather than crisp and a bit rolled off, overall quite flat and natural sound but I wouldn't call it really balanced - they've done a bit of a trick with the bass which occasionally comes at the expense of mid-range articulation.

I really like my Momentums but they are a bit of an acquired taste IMO and I tend to use them for a change of pace rather than every day listening.

The Sony MDR-1A are not as bass boosted as Beats but the bass is still well north of neutral. Their mids and highs are very nice though, relatively neutral and rich while the highs roll off before becoming annoying.

If you want something more "hi-fi" then the Audio Technica MSR7 might be worth a look. They have far less bass but what they have is very tight and well controlled, fairly neutral mids and articulate and detailed highs.

Coming from a Beats background, I would be cautious with the MSR7 as they may prove to be fatiguing and you really do need to listen to them for an hour or two in order to give your brain time to adjust to the very different sound signature.

Sorry Rids, i didn't realise he meant a user off of here. Me having a moment there.

Thanks for the reply. I am not too fussed about big bass but i am fussed about having perfect clarity and being able to hear the things you wouldn't noramally be able to hear over normal speakers.

I will have a look into these sony headphones.

Thanks

If you want to hear things you wouldn't pick up with lesser headphones grab the Nad HP50. They also have one the most neutral sound signatures I've heard i around it's price.

Sorry, probably should have made that clear. Not fair to assume someone will know I'm referring to another forum member. :o

Yeah, I figured that was the reason. Just checking in case you were just meant a headphone that will be powered by a smartphone well without the need of an amp.

Basically, both! :D

NAD HP50 did cross my mind, by aren't they advertised as Apple controls?

Apple store?

John Lewis.

Probably very few that have a decent choice of headphones, outsides of specialist audio stores.

What a lot of people do is get them from the rain forest and return them if they don't like them, which shouldn't be a problem as long as it's within the time limit.
I have no problem with people doing this as it's how I got both my MDR-1A and MDR-100AAP so cheap. I bought them both as returns for under £100 and both were spotless, not a mark on them. :D

Vmoda Crossfade neutral? Really? :D

thats a fair point, i noticed momentums and BBD which are both bass heavy and though of a more neautral decent pair, its the LP which are bass cannons tho the m100 are nice for all music.
Also he said balanced bass and treble so sound like he could need a V rather than flat freq response like at dt770

All of the V-Moda headphones have a V shaped response. Their mids are pushed down and the treble is too weird to be neutral, even their M100 which also has a weird distortion spike but boy they are fun with the right track. The M100 don't do vocals very well and they are kind of veiled. The Denon D600 is a better "Fun" headphone than the Crossfade LP series and M100 IMO

Purely off reviews i was reading the other night i am swerving towards the sony headphones that was recommended in 1 of the first posts. Cheapest too which is a bonus.

So think i am just going to order a pair of them. Fed up of looking inyo them now.

Thanks all for the input.

Just an update. The Sonys arrived and i didnt want them in the end. They sounded exactly the same as the 1st gen BBD that i have.

Ended up nipping into the megastore in mansfield and they had the lot out of to test. Ended up with a Sony MDR100ABN h.ear headset. The momentum 2.0 headsets was very good also but the wireless on the Sonys is what made my decision.
