New headset for gaming

I have never spent a lot of money on headsets and only had stereo headsets so I decided it was time to try surround sound headsets but dont really know what to look for! What do you think of these:

What's your budget and are you going to be using onboard sound?

Well I usually buy the cheapest set I can find.at about £5 so the £50 set.above is quite a big jump! I wouldnt really like to spend much more than that. Yes I sm using onboard sound on the gigabyte ud5 mobo but the above set.is usb so should have 7.1 built in rather than the 5.1 on the mobo

All the info you need if you decided to get Roccat Kave 5.1 (which you really should!). What sound card have you got?

Unless you plan on upgrading your soundcard then one of those USB sets would probably be better. I've heard the onboard sound from a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 on half decent headphones and it sucks balls in my opinion, but your mileage may vary.

Thats a good price but is that a surround sound headset? The item description doesnt mention it.

No its not, it will plug into your green 3mm jack at the back of your mobo. You will need some virtualisation software to imitate surround sound, not sure Realtek have any. What make of motherboard have you got?

So the platronics headset is still winning as 7.1 will be better than virtual 3d? Im using a gigabyte ud5 motherboard
