Hi Guys,

Ive just purchased a HIS 5970 from OcUK. Pretty much everytime I've turned my machine on so far I dont get a display. But the computer is booting in the background. I have to press the power button so Windows shuts down and then try again till I get it to come on.

Also when it does work.. When windows loads and its just about to show the desktop. It will make like a clicking sound as the desktop appears. Is this normal or not?

Not getting a display straight away is a bit of an annoyance for one thing.. Especially when im not the only one using the PC and ppl just hold the damn power button in not knowing what to do...?

Do I have my DVI lead plugged into the right socket? Ive got it plugged into the one closest to the board?

Could it be any BIOS settings? PCI Express is set to Auto?

And also I have just purchased one of them new Asus Xonar Xense soundcards with headset but Ive put it in PCIESlot 3.. instead of right above the 5970 in the little mini PCI Express slot.. ? So the graphics card has got more room to breathe..? Is this ok?

hi something very familar here clickingnoise/i jst installed a asus xonar pci a few weeks ago and as its booting into windows i also get a strange clicking noise,i never had it before so it must be the soundcard thats doing it,i think il take it out jst to sure

What PCIE slot did you put it in? a big one? or No.1 the littlle one?

So I take it the clicking noise is normal then? lal?

Just got off the phone with tech support re the graphics card and they have told me to RMA it..

I will never buy a HIS card again. As its brand new and doesnt work. LoL

That said, I have always been a major Nvidia fan. Should I go for an Nvidia GTX 470/480 over the 5970 ??

Recommendations plz??

I was guna for the Sapphire 4gb version 5970 instead? With the 3 fans on it..

Is that 2 cards on one PCB btw? Would I be able to crossfire that in the future or not?

Also what would perform better.. the sapphire 4gb 5970 or the SLI 460's ?

Hash, if you don't have an issue the clicking noise is the Xonar flicking a relay and perfectly normal

SLI 460's perform VERY well thanks to the scaling on the latest drivers. With the GTX460's at stock you'll be very close to a 5970, overclock them (it's criminal not to) and they pull away quite considerably.

According to [H] when you have a pair of GTX460's at ~800MHz you'll even beat Crossfire 5870's:

Cypress cards are still great in single GPU setups, but it seems like Nvidia totally dominate in multi GPU now. When you think about it in terms of bang for buck, it just gets utterly painful.

2x Gigabyte GTX460 1GB = £360
1x 5970 = £465
2x 5870 = £600

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH UR 5970/its the asus xonar sound card, they all do it mate trust me,take the sound card out then reboot into windows im %100 sure its the sound card,oc.uk will jst send u the 5970 back after they test it as there is nothing wrong with it,send it to me if u dont want it

So the soundcard would cause me to get no display when I power on?

I removed the new Xonar soundcard and still get no display. So its not the soundcard is the 5970 thats faulty.. The soundcard is responsible for the clicking noise though
