Hi all, in the process of completing on a new house (!), so I think it's only fair I furnish it with a new TV and sound system. :D

Complete n00b to TV and home stereo setups - what's the go to these days?

In terms of TVs, I'd like something around 55", mainly for watching films/documentaries on. Won't be gaming on it. To accompany it I'm looking for a soundbar and it'd be nice if I could use the soundbar independently from the TV, via bluetooth (phone/laptop/etc.)

Budget of around 1,500 quid for the pair.

Thanks in advance.

spend £1500 on an LG OLED from John Lewis

then save up for a soundbar. decent soundbars start at around £500 too. as in you would be better off getting stereo speakers instead in terms of bang for your buck. or going 3.0 then 3.1 but if you must have a soundbar i like yamaha but samsung make some really good ones too now as do a few others.

here is a buyers guide

i'd go for the samsung or LG from that list or the yamaha

you will be able to live with built in sound for the time it takes to save up for a nice soundbar. so spend the full £1500 on the LG OLED.

basically if you buy the right set up it will last you 5-10 years no problem. go cheap and there will always be an upgrade path open which would have only cost a few quid more.

Sony xf9005 is a great TV and will leave you some cash for a sound bar.

Alternatively, the LG 55 E7 OLED has a pretty decent sound bar built in - that would probably be what I’d go for. When it’s integrated, there’s less messing around getting everything working.
