Hi guys,

I've placed a deposit on a house! :D Now everyone else has been asking me what tiles I want in my kitchen but I'm more interested in hearing what gadgets you think are vital for a new house.

For example, Nest is a "smart" thermostat but it is currently US only.

I already have a decent surround sound system, TV, washing machine, fridge-freezer and bed. I have to buy everything else...

Any other suggestions? (Not saying I'll be able to afford it after all of these fees, but it's a fun exercise anyway)

Thanks

I was thinking about this but then the only thing that would need plugging in directly to the router would be my HTPC and PS3. Everything else I own is wireless and reliable.

Do this any way, it won't cost a huge amount and will give you the option for 10GB when the prices drop.

For me:

Plumbed in espresso machine - possibly even a ModBar system with the brewing accessory.
2 Versalab M3 grinders - one for espresso and another for other brew methods.

Reverse osmosis water filter for drinking water and the espresso.

Multiple network points in each room would also be a big one for me. As would extra plug sockets - you can never have enough.

Air con. Proper air con not the standalone units with a hose out the window.

Arcade machine and pinball machine.

Something quite basic but invaluable with a wife and kids is PIR lighting, I just wish I'd put more in now.

Just had networking built into my new house and it's great. Recommend getting as many ports in as you can afford. I only wish I'd run some extra ports to the Living room.

Have it all feed back to a central location, I picked a utility cupboard space. I also had the Master Socket installed there too for my ADSL so that is where my Router/Switch live.
