Rightho, have a Vive on the way for early next week Intend to use it seated for driving and in the room next door for waving arms around etc ( without smacking the PC )

Question is, what are the must have extras, do i need anything for the face mask, what cable extenders would I need etc etc

Plenty of you guys already setup and got this all sorted so help appreciated, anything silly too, like as I just thought a bracket or "head" to place the Vive in when not in use.

Necessity list welcome !

Erm, How far away is the room next door?

Not sure you will be able to do what you want to do without buying two extra lighthouses, and even then I am not sure you can have two separate play areas. Or do you plan to move the lighthouses from one room to the other when you want to switch between sit down and roomscale? That will get annoying after a while, moving the lighthouses, then running the setup again each time you do.

EDIT: Your post got me curious, it seems to can have multiple play areas. But you will need to buy an extra lighthouse for the second space. So you have one lighthouse in the room where you want to sit down and play and two in the room where you want to run around in!

Easiest thing to do is buy a third base station so one in one to room for seated games then two next door for room scale. http://www.rainfold.com/blog/htc-vive-second-room-third-base-station.html
As for accessories I recommend the the 6mm leather face pads and the deluxe audio strap. Cable wise I use an active 10m hdmi and active usb cable from Amazon works fine but it is picky about what usb socket it's plugged into.

You lovely bunch, just when I thought I couldn't spend more ( too easy I know ), Thanks for this though, i'll go do a little searching, 10 meter extensions are more than enough, face pads check ! are these bungees for the wires from the ceiling any good, have Jack Russell's so I'm sure they will find amusement in well anything.

Looking at it I can do room scale in the same room as the PC no need to extend ( for now ), I'll just get it setup and working, but will grab some wall mounts, something to place the vive on when not in use and the face pads, have a pair of G903 I think wireless headphones for starters, so the Audio Strap can wait, that way I can waste a shed load more on games :D

And another edit, feel free to recommend any MP games that are a must have, already own the usual suspects for racing and I'll have star trek installed before it gets here lol.

Raw data is fun Co op, and eleven table tennis is awesome! Pavlov for a cheap shooter.

Star trek bridge crew although I've not played it yet.

I'll grab elite dangerous, funny thing is, i can't ever remember being this excited over tech, its great being in your forties and still acting like a kid :p

:D:D I am with you there. I have my Rift since June of last year and I still get a buzz every time I put on the headset.

Elite is awesome but is very subjective ion it's enjoyment. It's very much sim heavy not a pick up and play type arcade thing - just a quick heads up (I love it though)
But playing it in VR is something else.
If you do play it, try it in 2D first so you can look things up, find your keyboard keys etc. Then transition over to VR (plus it's nice to see those stations in VR and realise just how sodding big they are!

Mr recommendations
Superhot VR is pretty good and it not long ago released with a steam native version, so you can avoid the revive hackery, well deserved credit to the guy that made it but it is still a compromise over native support and I just didnt want to install the oculus store on my PC, I dont have much trust in anything run under the dubious moral values of zuckerberg.
Climbey - Its not actually like climing, but it is still a lot of fun even if you have trouble with heights
Onward - Good but i suck at it. Might require a homebrew stock to make aiming easier
Holoball/Racket NX - Bat and ball games, but both good in their own way.
Smashbox Arena - Team dodgeball arena

I must be "that guy", it arrived, new as stated ( box had been opened ), having an issue with the seller, or myself, I paid £479 for it, I'm getting the old politicians response when asking for proof of purchase so i can register for the free games it comes with and warranty to cover myself, alas, another Trump reply from seller, Guess its going back and I'll grab the Rift while its on sale, will be about the same price once I pick up the extra base station, I would prefer the Vive, but I have a niggling feeling over warranty.

don't forget to install:
revive - oculus wrapper
openvr advanced settings - err, loads of tweaking options, multiple chaperone setups etc.

As hyperseven says, get the following:

Revive: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive
You need to download the Oculus Home software as well (https://www3.oculus.com/en-us/setup/) but essentially this adds a link in SteamVR to let you start any Oculus exclusive game. Worth trying out all the free ones.
Download: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive/archive/master.zip

OpenVR Advanced Settings: https://github.com/matzman666/OpenVR-AdvancedSettings
The multiple chaperone settings could be really handy for you in the long run if you do setup in two rooms. Be aware that they position of the base stations is really sensitive though. You shouldn't expect to be able to move them from room to room and simply "load" the room setup as even a tiny amount of difference in position will make a lot of difference to your tracking.

Also, has nice things like being able to add an arrow in the middle of the play area with an arrow so you can know which way is "forward" (handy for keeping the cable in check etc)

Chaperone Tweak: https://github.com/Xavr0k/ChaperoneTweak
This lets you modify your chaperone in VR with your headset on. It lets you grab the chaperone wall and move it until it goes where you want.

So the best idea is that once you setup your chaperone via steam, run this to tweak it to within an inch of its life. Combined with OpenVR Advanced Settings (which lets you set the range before the chaperone wall appears) you can really make the most of your playspace.

Again, in the long run, if you're using two play spaces use OpenVR Advanced Settings to save the chaperone configuration for each room once tweaked.

Dammit, wrote all this and not I notice your last post!

Oh well, most of it still applies, you can use your Rift with SteamVR as well :)

Appreciated though RoyMi6, I prefer the Vive for some reason, I really don't want to return it, but when somethings this good ( £479 ), has to be a problem elsewhere lol
