New iMac range coming out?

The only people who know for sure are Apple. Anything else you hear is pure rumour and speculation.

Have a quick search, there have been a few recent threads discussing this.

I'm with him ^^^. Difficult to know...

However as the lineup hasn't had much of a refresh over the past year or so, my guess would be that with these smaller & lower power laptop core i7 chips. I wouldn't be half surprised to see them in a thinner iMac sometime soon...

Feels like about the right time to me, but you can never tell when the 'big' updates are coming. I reckon it's soonish though. But that could be this week, this year... or ages away.

Mini, iMac, Mac Pro and Cinema Displays are all approaching the end of their cycles (overdue in the case of the displays) according to MacRumors, which goes by average update cycles and how close they are to those.

Do Apple do a "step up" programme? My wife's very old Powermac just dies and for work reasons we have to buy a replacement this weekend. If we get one then is there any option to upgrade if they replace hte lineup in the next month?

I don't think so, it's more a case of suffer and be angry. They do this with the OS, but only the OS.

Well not this week - a redesign will mean a media event which will mean invites going out which the rumour sites will pick up on. So it's likely at least a couple of weeks away but I'd expect it soon so they can flog them to all the holiday season buyers...

Nope. The only thing they allow this for is OS upgrades, like if you bought a Mac with Leopard just before the Snow Leopard release.

I got burnt picking up an old Mini just before the new Mini's got released, which sucked because the graphics on the new one are miles better than the old.
