Well im about upgrade to Intel from AMD sadly, but it seems the way to go at this moment in time, will be building 2 systems identical for me and the missus.

Zalman CNPS9500-AT Aero Flower (Socket 775) CPU Cooler (HS-020-ZA)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-135-IN)

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI)

Thermaltake VB1000BWS Soprano SuperMidi Tower - Black (CA-015-TT)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) (MY-034-GL)

Leadtek GeForce 7900 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-081-LT)

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-088-MD)

Now this is what ive looked at so far and i might change or review items depending if things change from now till september...thats when i will have the money available.
My main aim is to run both at 3.0ghz if possible or close to, so im wondering if things like the ram will limit me a lot..i have to watch the price really, but dont want to leave myself short on oc possibilities.
any comments welcome :)

I'd say it would be well worth spending the extra on the PC6400 kit from Geil if you want to max out your overclock.

Instead of the Thermaltake case I'd get a Lian Li PC7+, much nicer;).

What PSU are you using?

Well i have a Tagan 480-u22 in my existing system, its not not as powerful as a lot of new ones, but ive heard its still capable of doing the job, i have to get a new one for the other pc, and im not sure what one to go for at a decent price.

As for the Case, i just love the look of the Thermaltake and the feature's, not sure i will change unless i really have to.

switch the maxtor to seagate 7200.10s, the 7900GTs to X1800XTs, and go for the geil 6400 ram.

Thanks mate, will check out the Seagate, as for the X1800XT im not sure, ive always been ATI, but i just dont think they get the support in games that Nvidia do, hence me changing.

Does the x1800xt outperform the 7900gt?

well the PC 6400 takes my price over budget...gonna have to rethink what to buy, or hope theres some price reduction in september or offers going.

in pretty much all but openGL games (doom3/quake 4 sngine games, really), the X1800XT is superior to the 7900GT, is cheaper and is more reliable.

ive also heard the new CAT drivers improve the performance for opengl games a lot more now...interesting.

Looks like i will be going with the X1800XT when the time comes, im kinda glad really, didnt want to jump ships from ati really as i always had no probs with either my 9800 pro or 9600 pro cards.
