New Intel P4 ,is this a good one?

Prescott runs hotter than Northwood.
If under air cooling Northwood will clock better, if under better cooling solution Prescott will perform better.

no

prescotts will always clock better - northwoods are slightly faster clock for clock

prescotts run hotter - that doesnt mean they dont clock well

no northwood will reach 4 gig on air - you need top end water/phase for that

seconded, I even think you'd struggle with top end water, the 478 socket seemed to hit a wall at about 3.7/8 the last ones produced were reallistically as fast as they were going.

Jump over to 775 and they are all very overclockable, the discussion about heat is a none issue with these chips because they're built to withstand it, I've never understood why people got their knickers in such a twist about it, you'd be mental to run an a64 for any length of time over 65-70 but P4s have no problem up to and slightly beyond 80.

Seriously for a 478 to get to or over 4ghz you'd either need a hand picked (or lucky) chip with an awesome stepping (E0 iirc were good) or you'll have to ram tons of volts up it.

i have a 3.2Ghz prescott and t otell u the truth i dont think the 4.0Ghz clock speed is possible. My reason for saying this is casue at 3.76Ghz with kingston value ram and a gigabyte motherboard my pc locks up. I wish i could give u my full specs now but i still havent finished my siggy....Could someone make one for me pls???
