New iphone , cant get all contacts

Just got a new iphone and tryed to get all my contacts back but couldnt, even through sim transfer and icloud back up.

Is there anyone else here thats had the same issue and knows how to fix it?
What am i missing ...

Were they saved in iCloud?

Can you see them in icloud.com?

the only ones I can see on icloud.com are the ones I have entered since getting the phone, on my previous iPhone I had icloud drive on and contacts selected to push them to icloud. same on this one too.

and my mail app is fetching new data even though the settings should be making it do that.

That's weird, they should be there unless you deleted them. I'd speak to Apple support and see if they can see anything their end.

Still got the phone but i formatted it and put it on ebay , got in touch with apple and they helped me with it. Thanks for the reply though (Y)

In a live chat the assistant told me to go on icloud.com go to settings and restore from a back up. There might have been a little more to it but that was the jist.
