Looks like Apple have started the ball Rolling to the release of the new IPHONE, Personally needs to have some major improvements for me to consider ditching my iphone halfway through the contract to go for the new phone, and yes i have read the rumors on what it might have and Meh!! am more exited by the new 4.0 OS (Is there something wrong with me?)

I am pretty close to moving elsewhere too. I am all about the hardware in almost every case. It's clear that 2010 as I've said many times is primed for mobile devices with mainstream mobile chipsets becoming easier to mass produce.

With regards to the new iPhone, it's obvious that it will have good hardware behind it, that I have no doubt. What really cheeses me off is what was shown for OS4.0 - the main features like multitasking seemed 'tacked on', compared to what one can get if he/she looked at alternatives.

The overall OS4.0 main feature list announced things that are already available, just like the whole MMS/Cut & Paste debacle. At the end of the day we are still going to have an OS that has the same plain lockscreen (Hi thar lockinfo), and the same page after page of grid icons - to an extent due to folders.

I know there are a ton of API's still unraveled in the OS though, but from what I saw early on - my prediction of Apple being overtaken on the OS side of things is coming true imo.

my contract is only about 1/3 of the way through, might give o2 a ring and see if they can do me a deal when the new iphone comes out

Hmm, well I got my 3GS (32gb) in July on an 18 month contract. It would cost me about £300 to buy out my contract, I could sell my iPhone for that but then I'd have to pay for the new phone with the new provider. (I won't be going with o2 again)

I'm desperate for more space than 32gb though otherwise I'm happy to keep the 32gb one I have now.

On an 18 month contract with my iPhone 3Gs, will just buy the new iPhone and stick my sim in it :)

Got an 8GB 3G in great condition which I'll be shifting before the new one comes out, if I have any money left after my upcoming iPad app spree!

how early before we can place a pre-order with o2 / whoever do you reckon ?

ive been on the O2 simplicity tariff for the last couple of months waiting for this.

Mid-July'ish I reckon. I'm also on the Simplicity tariff, but dying to get away from o2 now. I swear their 3G performance is just getting worse.

I'm waiting for the announcement to get my PAC code from o2 too. my iphone 3g contract was up in April. o2's non-existent 3g coverage compared to orange's blanket coverage around here is the main reason for me to want to move.
