Utter rubbish? Probably, but who doesn't enjoy speculation :p

Worst mock-up ever. :D

Apple shoehorns the hardware into the current iPhone chasis nevermind one that tapers like that...

Not that I'm defending it (don't think it's real for a minute, although the sloping design could make sense for iChat) but it could have a larger screen, ala the HD2 which would allow it to be thinner.

Problem with a larger screen is, what would happen with the apps built for the present screen res? Unless apple come up with some sort of backwards compat feature. Obviously the way forward is to have a larger res and screen yes but it isn't without its problems.

I really wish people would stop focusing on silly thin mockups though and something that makes some sense. Anyway, I just hope the sodding next version will have half decent batterylife so that I'm not AFRAID to play games or use gps without the unit heating up, melting my hand before shoving a 20% battery warning in my face.

^That was one of the best mockups I'd seen. It'll be interesting what Apple bring to the table next year, now that the rest of the industry have caught up.

I've got some more speculation:
- New iPhone to be launched early summer 2010
- Includes more memory than current model for the same price
- Capacitive touchscreen
- Available in white or black
- Includes several new features

lol.thats a good list...im willing to bet in their advertising they will saying somthing along the lines of...

The Best iPhone ever.......

It's actually no problem at all, every app has it's own set rez so all it would be is a matter of detecting the app rez and scaling up to fit the new screen/rez size. If it's a standard interface app then the controls are a typical size already specified in the core of the API, it would just be a matter of pulling those sizes up and calculating positions of the controls which most apps should do already, I know thats what I do anyway.

Quite looking forward to seeing if the design has changed for the next iPhone and seeing what goodies have been added to it. I really wish that they would add in native multiple application handling, and background applications support in the next firmware update, *sigh* if only dreams came true :(

Do you work for apple? :D

I still prefer this..

That is a beautiful bit of photoshop I must say...

I'm one of the launch day 3G chaps so my 18 month contract is drawing to an end, so I have the dilemma of going for the 3Gs or waiting for the next version in July or whenever...

Tricky one that, I have never in my life not upgraded as soon as it was possible :p - I'm sure there are a lot of you in the same boat what are you all gonna do?

I'm due an upgrade in April from my 3G but I'll hold off until the summer and wait for the new iPhone (if its any good and actually appears as per the previous release pattern).

I came to the same conclusion since each app would be scaled up to fit the screen, and the api would reposition the ui elements - I felt I was missing something though. I still see a larger res presenting problems but I can't work out why lol

I'm in the same boat my 3G contract ends next month, but I think I can hold off until the next summer. I'm still really happy with my standard 3G, but I'm interested to see what Apple will bring to the table with the next iPhone release.

Well the good news is that apple just signed the contract with Foxconn to start manufacturing the new iPhones, the bad news is we still have no idea what's in em and what they look like :P

My contract ends January 25th 2010 (iPhone 3G)

I'm going to downgrade to O2 simplicity 20 (£20 month) and buy the next iPhone outright on PAYG, then pop that sim in.

eh? won't that leave you massively out of pocket for the PAYG purchase and without bundled internet?

I'm sure there's method behind the madness I just can't see what it is :p
