My work place has been making redundancies with my boss (the network manager) taking voluntary redundancy.

They have decided to promote me (yay!) but they cannot call me the same title. My new contract is for IT Support Manager, which I feel is pretty rubbish/un-important. I am going to ask about changing it to IT Systems Manager?

What do you think, any other ideas for titles?

I used to work with someone who moved company to do exactly the same job on exactly the same pay for the sole reason he had a better job title at the new place.

Every course he went on he would frame the certificates and keep them on his desk, boss intercepted one in post and whipped up a fancy looking fake. For years he had a "Certified User of NT" certificate that he was very proud of

Thanks guys, just dont want peeps ringing and asking to speak to network manager when they are speaking to me!

I will think about the Hat Cyber ;-) We already have the Virtual Lunch Helmet (VLH).

If thats your office then be happy that you are even being called manager :P

You work in IT, you Support and you Manage. IT Support Manager sounds spot on.

Why do you even care? They are basically the same!

I dunno, if I was in a room with an IT Support Manager and an IT Systems Manager, I'd think that the systems manager was more important.

Managing IT sounds better than supporting it and could possible be 2 seperate roles.

Do you often judge people in the workplace by what it says on the email signature then? :p

I'd say they are both equal.
