Some people get really hung up on titles. Goddess knows why but they do!
If I was doing the same job as someone before me I don't think it's unreasonable to have a similar if not the same title.
In this case though as the previous person was made redundant you can't use the old job title as by the nature of redundancy that post has been deemed no longer required.
Just a legal thing even though he will be doing the same job![]()
My work place has been making redundancies with my boss (the network manager) taking voluntary redundancy.
They have decided to promote me (yay!) but they cannot call me the same title. My new contract is for IT Support Manager, which I feel is pretty rubbish/un-important. I am going to ask about changing it to IT Systems Manager?
What do you think, any other ideas for titles?
Hi, I've just finished a degree on an IT related course and will be hoping for a career like yours.
I was just wondering what your job actually consist of?
Thanks,
Matt Wilde
P.S. I would send you a private message but I see that you can't on this forum.
I think you should have been a real man like the Network Manager and took voluntary redundancy instead of sliming your way into his grave whilst the coffin was still warm... some people.
Everything and everything! If its got a plug on it we deal with it. From servers (Managing AD, Exchange, OSX, permissions), purchasing, desktop PCs and hardware, new and existing users, all the way down to plugging in a network cable and rebooting PCs for eejit users.
Sadly, my young family prevents this. Although I am looking for new jobs, if you knew about the incompetancy of the Senior management and the amount they are paid while peeps are getting the sack you would know why! He has none of this and can/will get a job anywhere in the UK or Hungary (his homeland). Lucky to get out in honesty!
Seriously if you are actively looking to leave why are you even bothering about what your current job title is. Support Manager/Systems Manager it don't matter what you are titled as long as you put down your experience.
Also saying that IT Support Manager is unimportant and uninteresting is very derogatory to any IT Support Managers that may be on her.
I think you should push for "The God of Hellfire!"
