Overtime is NOT allowed. These people go to weddings with elastic on the confetti. They have transparent toilets so they can see what they are giving away....

I have the fastest computer in the company though, its a Dell D830 with a whopping 2GB of Ram. More than some of the servers.

I could virtualise the whole server environment and run it on my home laptop.

No O/T? Fine, they'll have to live with the intermittent network connectivity and downtime then. Make sure you send out plenty of comms to this effect, and turn your mobile off when you start.

Everyone here is used to the IT infrastructure breaking down. I've already replaced the home made network leads and moved the servers onto the fastest switch. That'll be the 10/100 one then... Some of the older servers were attached to a 10mb Hub :eek:

Its very much a work in progress. Speaking to one of the directors today, I think I impressed on him just how quickly money needs to be spent bringing the infrastructure up to scratch, he seemed to agree, but asked if I can "find good deals on ebay" :eek:

I've worked out that I can get a semi decent download speed by tethering my laptop to my phone, so not ALL bad.

Cable ties? You'd be kicked out of my old data centre faster than you could blink if you want near a cabinet with cable ties, except to secure LV cables into management arms.

None at all until I came on the scene. All mishmash from previous bods with no documentation. On the plus side, I am loving it! Boss is great and the eye candy means I am getting fitter doing my "rounds" rather than being a vampire IT person.
