Well I've just been offered a job in Basel and due to start at the end of the month. I don't really know the place at all, we have a place in the alps but that's 130 miles away.

So, anyone know much about Basel, things to do, look out for? Any living tips out there?

Any tips welcomed!

FC Basel play there, and the Swiss open is there, and Roger Federer is from there.

Haha Novartis :P

You up in St. Johann? If you are then get a place in France to live - somewhere around Mulhouse. Mulhouse is 35mins drive to St. Johann.

If you are in on of the other sites then you might be as well living in Germany.

Cost of living will be lower and you will still get the nice high swiss salary

It's on the main campus? Big old one, just next to the airport. I'm going to be commuting back every other weekend to see the girlfriend, so will be renting two places (one in Cambs, other in Basel) to start with and then will see after christmas about seeing if she fancies a move.

Had heard about living outside Basel itself, I'd love the French side (which would do if gf moved out too) but didn't know what it would be like getting to that campus in rush hour and where would be possible / realistic from where.

Thanks for all advice!

St. Johann is the site of the Novartis Campus. You can be across the border and into France in 5 minutes. I done a lot of work with Novartis over the years and I know lots of people there. A significant proportion live in France. Saint Louis is in France and just over the border - full of Novartis people.

The Airport is in France and Saint Louis is closer than the Airport.

Cheers spud, I'll check out that area, see if I can see anything around there! It's weird when you have a complete lack of knowledge about somewhere. Freaking me out.
