I have had my rather old looking Logitech G15, and G7 mouse since they were first released. I am now in the market for another set.

I am thinking along the lines of the G19 keyboard and either the MX with darkfield, or the G700 mouse.

Has anyone brought any of these products and which one would be best for gaming and basic internet stuff, any other recommendations?

Cheers :)

Some reviews on the G19 keyboard here

People seem to think it's a bit overpriced and plastic for the cost. I'd suggest, even though it looks a bit 'radical' (love that word) to try a Cyborg V1.7. From what i've read it's a really solid keyboard, metal coated WSAD, spacebar and arrow keys for gamers. Custom backlighting for different sections of the keyboard, multimedia keys up top and I believe 12 macro keys.

Definitely worth a look if your gunning for keyboards in that range.

As for the mouse I actually own an MX performance darkfield wireless mouse. It is quite good, I like the lower thumb button for expose features (it's so good once you get used to expose) and the left side of the mouse is generally quite nice. The scroll wheel can be put into a free spin which is surprisingly useful for long scrolls.

Thing with the mouse is the right hand side of it isn't very good, ie where your pinky goes. I have medium-large hands, nothing out of the ordinary and I fold my pinky back in on itself because of the mouse shape. Feels a bit awkward at first. Also the left/right mouse click which after 4 months or so is still fine I always thought it could feel more responsive. It clicks fine, but i'd prefer something more definite if you know what I mean. Aside from that there is the battery life which is pretty poor the area where you plug it in to charge (front of the mouse) always feels a bit tacky, like you could easily break something because it requires a little more force than i'd like to put it in. It can be charged whilst in use though. I imagine the G700 to be fairly similar looking at it but i've read no reviews.

Instead i'd suggest something more like a Razer Naga (NOT the silly one with 12 programmable buttons, but the one with 6 buttons around the thumb area). I'm however not going off personal experience here. The mouse looks nice enough and has nice placement of buttons from what a friend has said. I'd go read a bunch of reviews though.

Its always my worry going from a solid G15, which has everything I have ever wanted to something that has a poor build quality. If I could I would buy another G15.

It might sound sad, but having the visual display is a must for me and is a life saver with the clock on there. :D

I have huge hands and the MX mouse sounds like a no go for me. So maybe the G700, might be the better choice.

I use a mechanical keyboard at work, and I just don't rate them, especially for gaming purposes.

Wouldn't spend that much cash on a board that is purely at a premium price and has been reviewed badly for the screen quite often. What kind of switches does the mechanical keyboard you use at work use? Mechanical keyboards are at least 30% more pleasing to use than rubber domes at least for me... I don't even need full key press' to type.

Take a look at the Gigabyte M8000X it's quite a budget mouse changeable weights, is quite ergonomical and I also have quite big hands and it fits really well and comfortably :) on the fly DPI changing as well which is always nice balancing the weight of the mouse and the DPI for perfection.

The switches we have at work on the keyboards are White Alps, which seems to be very common.

You would have thought, after the G15 as soo successful, the G19 would have been a step forwards, not a few steps back :(

White Alps? Common? o.O the most common switches now adays are the Cherry MX variants usually Blues/Blacks/Browns/Reds being the most common. Haven't seen a White Alps switch keyboard for some time but I haven't looked for them either really. The G19 is really quite overpriced in all fairness for what it is. It would make sense if it used mechanical keys.. but it doesn't :/

Just curious regarding the mouse more than anything, what games do you intend to play? You're obviously fairly into them to want to spend this much on keyboard/mouse so you may as well look for one most suited.

RPG/MOBA I stick with my suggestion of the Naga.
Big hands defo stay away from the logitech MX performance mouse.

For a shooter maybe a RAT7 but i'd check for reliable reviews. Reliability on RAT7's seem to vary massively from user to user.

I play anything from FPS, to RTS, driving, sports and anything that takes my fancy, so quite a broad spectrum of games.

Wireless is a must, and quite a high dpi as well.

Wireless really? you know that wireless mice cause lag and are god awful for batteries dying on you 24/7? you won't find many gaming mice that are wireless since with a wire you get a 1ms polling rate.

If you must have wireless you're going to spend a lot... I can only recommend 2 mice for that and they are the Razer Mamba and the Cyborg RAT 9. But you'd save yourself a LOT of money just to get a RAT 7 or a deathadder.

EDIT: For that set of games you won't be wanting a Naga. Deathadder, Mamba, RAT 7/9 (if you must have wireless take 9), logitech MX518 for a classic or steelseries sensei. All are decent mice but ofc only 2 are wireless.

*Bear in mind if you are hard on your mouse AVOID THE DEATHADDER. If you aren't it'll be fine.
**MX518 is probably too low on the DPI is you want higher DPI settings but it is a classic and highly rated mouse.
*** The rest of perfectly adequate DPI settings. I'd advise you go and read reviews on them all to find what best fits your hand size / grip type.
**** Definitely avoid logitech mice if you want to go wireless. In my experience logitech wireless mice seem to have sub average battery life. You spend a lot of time with it charging.

You forget the Razer Mamba. It is also Wireless.

That was in there before I even edited :) But yes the Mamba is a nice mouse, works well when charging too as a wired one. Not a bad choice really but I feel that you get ripped off for the limited features aside the wireless capability.

I guess this is why I like the G7 soo much as you can change the batteries in seconds and you can change the dpi on the fly. It has a good buttong layout, although an extra one on the side where my thumb sits would be nice.

I am assuming that all the new mice all user lasers, and have built in gliding feet, so you don't need the extra cost of a pad/mat?

I'd suggest having a mouse mat anyway. My MX performance may work of any surface even glass but it does feel nicer on a mouse mat.

Never used a G7 though. But honestly when i've ran this mouse through i'm going back to wired :)

Weird, how you say that wired is better, I find that you have to keep wiggling the cable around do you can be in a better position.

I am liking the look of the Razer Mamba for my choice of mouse.

Still not convinced with the keyboard, might go for a cheaper option till something better comes out, which cater for my needs.

Grab the OCUk value cherry mx black switch keyboard if you don't like it after 14 days you can DSR it. most gaming mice have bundles of spare wire which makes it easier to not have to move it too much/too often if you have the right amount of slack.

Right, I have sorted the keyboard out. I did purchase the G510 and I love it.

But I am still looking for a new mouse, I thought I found the perfect one, its was the Logitech Performance MX mouse, which felt great in my big hands and had everything I needed, except the dpi is only 1500? which is a major disappointment.

I am open to the idea of a wired mouse as long as there is plenty of length in the cord.

Cheers :)
