New kid on the block Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

Ah, well I'm at 356MHz FSB at the moment for 3.2GHz on stock volts - I haven't had anything like that :) Running solid so far.

keep pushing :p

i think this mobo might be the best of the lot the more the results are appearing....you've got 356fsb already on stock volts and the non elite @ XS are hitting 400+ too......good for stock bios

2 reasons i'm not a fan of the asus power off on reboot :-

1. bad for hard drives
2. it will switch my single stage phase off everytime it does this .... = no good

Got 3.35GHz so far - going to leave it priming overnight before trying for any more. Haven't had any problems getting here though - just needed to up the voltage a smidge but it's doing good so far.

Edit: Ok, I lied. Had to have another play but I wish I hadn't. Either the motherboard or my RAM is letting me down - I can't get it to POST at over 380MHz FSB. Have tried tons of different voltage options - just my luck, I always get the lemons. Ah well, had best go to bed now beore I get wound up :)

Easyrider cries into his coffee.

I had a feelin this mobo would be good for 450 + :(

I've got a funny feeling it's my RAM for whatever reason. I know it's not the CPU because I tried the new beta BIOS that's floating around which allows for CPU multiplier adjustment so I whacked that right down to eliminate the CPU.

I've just got my LGA mounting bracket for my XP120 so I'll go fit that and try again. Maybe I missed something last night :)

Fingers crossed! :p

Yeah I'm fairly confident that it's my RAM. If I up the RAM volts (to what's probably unsafe levels) it POSTs at higher FSBs but soon freezes up. I know I'm going slightly off-topic, but what RAM is generally regarded as best for a 975X board?

Hi there

What G.Skill you using?
Try setting your memory so it runs in sync with the FSB and set the timings to 5-5-5-15 manually in the bios with all other options on AUTO and use 2.1v and 2.2v

I've got the DDR2-800 ZX kit, 2x1GB sticks.

Have just been playing around again. Have set the RAM divider to 1:1 and set the FSB to 383MHz. I set the timings to 5-5-5-15 and RAM voltage to 2.1v but it froze up loading Windows. The RAM voltage on 2.2v did the same, but oddly enough, changing the RAM voltage to 2.3v let it get into Windows.

I also had the beta BIOS flashed which lets you lower multipliers so I eliminated the CPU as being the culprit.

What I don't understand is that even though the RAM is running well within spec (766MHz when it's good for 800MHz) it seems to need more voltage when the mobo FSB goes up? Is this normal on 975X boards? I'm sure 2.3v can't be good for this RAM for prolonged periods.

Going to try a mate's Corsair DDR2 tomorrow - will be interesting to see what happens with that.

Sorry, should've mentioned - have also tried that. Even tried up to 1.8v though I know it shouldn't need to go that high.

no i havent hit the order button yet, im just waiting for my mate to give it a try on his kentsfield, have a feeling its going to be duff with it too :(

I've now got a 2GB kit of G.Skill PC2-6400 HZ and also some Corsair XMS2-6400C4 to play with. Here's hoping I have better luck with these.

Get the P5W64, it rocks! :D Mine went up to 450FSB without really trying too hard, have a feeling it will be a monster once I get it under my phase.

Looks like it was the RAM. Put the G.Skill HZ in and it's POSTing at 400 FSB no problems :) Can't boot into Windows mind but I'll be playing around with that - I expect it's my CPU at its limits here so I'll play around with multipliers.

ok noob question sorry  this board is crossfire capable and says will support nvidia dual graphics cards does that mean sli ?

The AW9D-MAX Intel 975X is now on this weeks only - works out a saving of about £6, still want to see this doing at least 400 - 450 FSB before I buy one though.
