New Kitchen Time

Yeah but there's reason behind my madness :)

Miele would have been my first choice for everything but is so expensive.
The Miele fridge and freezer is the same price as Siemens so went for them. The microwave, ovens and hob are all Siemens which was my second brand choice. I could have got lower range Miele ovens for the same price but wanted pyrolytic.
A Siemens island extractor is £1050, the Neff one (same company, very similar design was £650, I couldn't justify £400 on a badge basically).

Wasn't bothered at all about matching the appliances in the utility so reused the Bosch washing machine and wanted an A rated tumble dryer, Siemens etc were £800 - £900 plus so plumped for the £330 A+++ Beko and tbh it's been great but time will tell on this one.

Was considering a warming drawer under the microwave but we'd never have used it.

Indeed £400 saving on a badge is very nice, even more ironic considering that Neff make all the hoods for the group (Bosch and Siemens). The amount of people that have to have their hood matching everything else truly baffles me :) Miele fridges are good value but then they are the only thing that Miele don't make themselves. Liebherr make them but they still are quality units but you can often save ££'s by buying the Liebherr versions (badges again!!) and Liebherr have more choice. Very nice kitchen though :)

good project.

have you done all the work yourself?

No far from it, I did the initial work so ripped the old kitchen out, demolished the walls, removed the plaster all to brick and took the ceilings down.

After that I laboured for my mates who were kitchen fitters / builders, electricians and plumbers.

Fantastic transformation and very tastefully done!

I bet the reward is amazing after waiting 10 years to get it sorted!!!

My only comment on your choice is the worktops, I would have gone for a dark granite/dark realwood to compliment the lighter floors. However if everyones tastes were the same we wouldn't have a choice!

So what room is next? :D

Great thread - thanks for sharing. What Gas hob is that? Also - what have you learnt from the whole process and would you do it all again, if so, what would you do differently?

You'd be surprised how often you use a warming drawer. We have all Miele appliances and the warming drawer is used surprisingly frequently! Even down to getting a takeaway, realising you need to do something and chucking it in the drawer to keep it warm and stop it drying out.

*edit*

Have you tested the extractor at that height yet? It'll be interesting to see how effective it is as it looks to be quite high?

I'm faced with an appliance nightmare at the moment. Found this thread on google. How are you finding your NEFF extractor?

The extractor's great, wouldn't have any problems recommending one, £400 cheaper than the Siemens, the halogen lights light up the hob really well, good suction and looks great.

Yeah, it's great, no problems with extraction. It had to be above my head, I was sick of banging my head on the old one and didn't fancy having to duck down to see people in the dining room.

It's a Siemens EC745RC90E, really happy with it, the middle ring is great for steaks etc as it really chucks some heat out. Also the pans are very stable on it, some modern hobs with hardly any metal pan supports don't have enough to keep the pan stable.
The only annoying thing is the flame failure device, you need to keep pushing the button down for quite some time untill it stays on.

At the moment wouldn't have done anything differently.

Heya, did you do the design pics yourself?

No, it was designed by the guy I got it from who supplied the kitchen.

Got the freezer, still waiting for the fridge from Germany.
