New Kitchen

Wickes (aka Benchmarx) stuff is decent. Just finishing fitting mine. Only ordered units but they still helped with visit and design and quickly sorted an issue with a pan drawer front.

I would recommend pan drawers where possible too. Much easier to use.

Got ours from Magnet. Absolutely no issue with quality of units. Bought all appliances separately. (Haven't got a photo of the finished fridge area, but the middle picture gives you an idea). The beer hatch was a selling point for the American FF! :D

All fitted by my good self, went together quite easily and only needed one visit back to the Magnet showroom to see how the cornice/pelmet should look, apart from the installation of the range cooker.

This looks interesting.

Did you fit yours on your own?
No, our builders fitted it as part of a bigger project. No issues though. They loved the quality of the units and the fact that they all come pre-built and with the doors pre-hung. Unlike a Wickes kitchen for instance, where you will spend a couple of days building the flat pack units.

This!

Went with Magnet last year (on BOXING DAY flash sale) No problems at all, with the units or fitting (everything fully fitted)

Even the fitter was good.

We've gone for a few pan drawers and together with the space under the range for baking trays etc that should do us for storage.

Small update: work starts tomorrow so thought I'd post a before photo:

NB: the kitchen isn't usually this bare - there has been a big clear out!

What on earth is that, a door within a door so you can fish things out without opening the main door?!

Sorry but that strikes me a the most pointless gimmick ever. I can just about understand the usefulness of a water/ice dispenser but the manufacturers seem to be falling over themselves lately to add more gimmicks to their products. Last time I was in Currys I looked at some of the "intelligent" fridges with screens and thought "what on earth". Samsung had one with basically a TV in the front of it and they wanted £4k for it!!

I have to say that my cousin has one of these fridges (bought years ago so one of the first versions out on the market) and it's actually quite useful - they use it for just grabbing the milk regularly or at other times just grabbing a beer or bottle of wine. I always thought it would be a gimmick but it was quite practical and is still used regularly.

I love the idea of DIY Kitchens, but some things holding me back are, working out exactly what units are required. The top how do i fit that. I think im pretty good with most house diy, but the thought of measuring up and fitting a kitchen doesnt appeal.

Glad you didn't pick wren. Was recently also researching and once you look deep Wren and maybe of the others have terrible reviews.

I'm still yet to find someone I'd put money behind... but currently looking at these guys - http://intoto.co.uk.

We had out kitchen done by intoto recently and whilst the kitchen and units are lovely the service we got was not great. Found that we were doing most of the project managing and having to work from home most of the time, as each contractor did not seem to know what needed to be done. I think they are a franchise so each store might have different service.

If you don't mind me asking... how big is your kitchen? An roughly how much has the entire thing cost? Units and fitting?

We initially looked elsewhere as we didn't necessarily want the hassle of measuring and ordering the units ourselves. However every single kitchen company we went to sent someone out to measure and they all had different measurements(!) - some were way off! In the end, and mostly because we found a very good fitter, we decided to do it ourselves. The fitter has been great and checked our order and pointed out a few things which helped (e.g. the required gap for units either side of the hood where there is a gas hob). We mocked up some plans using a free online CAD website, marked it up and ordered. No major bumps in the road as yet(!).
