hello I recently bought a Acer Triton 500 from ocuk. Windows updates causes me issues connecting to uplay steam and windows updates. It renders my laptop useless. Doing a system restore solves issue but it soon reappeared. I have a spare laptop with me and it’s running fine on same network.

I’m at a loss here. Haven’t had such issues since the days of vista. Oh and to top it off this laptop was advertised as having gsync and guess what! It doesn’t! icing on the cake.

any advice ?

Get it formatted properly by wiping the drive completely and start a fresh with 1903. I'm guessing it's windows 10 right?

Yeah windows 10. I’ve got my old laptop setting up win 10 on usb via media creation tool. Will that be 1903?

I did reformat the laptop but with older version of windows that was on stick. Worked fine then the issues reappeared.

ok thanks for that. ill be sending the is laptop back anyway as it been sold under false advertising.

Well it's not really, OcUK don't make software they sell hardware. If something is happening due to updates it isn't the fault of OcUK. Well uPlay steam is Ubisoft and it's Microsoft that pushes out the updates and Acer is the designer.

What part of the advert was the false part? Can you quote and screenshot?

Yes my monitor at home supports it.

Am I missing something?

You know what gsync is right? :)

https://developer.nvidia.com/g-sync

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-enable-nvidia-g-sync

If it doesn't enable or the option isn't there then try updating the graphics drivers.

I’ve done that mate. Only options I get in control panel is 3D settings tab, program setting and physx the intel gpu is connected to screen. No way to turn off Optimus. Simply put, it doesn’t support gsync.

got it reformatted with 1903. soon as some updates are installed, same issue reappears. need vpn to loginto steam uplay and for windows update to work.

So what happens?
You upgrade to 1903 - previous to that all is well - and then you loose access to steam?
What happens when it refuses to connect?
This sounds like a simple port block or something going on. Can you ping the steam or uplay servers from the command prompt?

Doesn’t matter what version of windows. Once I’ve gotten into windows after reformat all is good. When some drivers or some update is installed steam uplay and windows update fail to connect. Uplay for example says there’s something wrong with my connection. It’s as if I don’t have internet. If I install a vpn and connect I have access to them.

You’re right something is blocking them.

How do I ping the servers via CMD prompt ?

There seems to be a lot of complaining about uplay on the web and unable to access it, i have never used it so dont know.

So windows update fails as well?
You dont have any fancy virus checker or something running do you?

If VPN works then it kind of says there is something being blocked at the network level.

Going to need a lot more info on this, its not hardware thats for sure.

I have another laptop with me and that connects fine. Same network.

What info can I give you ?

What software is on the machine, specifically anything you have added?
When it stops working does it loose access to the whole internet, ie nothing works or is it restricted to steam, uplay and windows updates?

Can you ping your gateway (prob 192.168.1.1) when its faulty? (drop to command prompt, type ping 192.168.1.1)

And again what virus checker ect?

VPN working tends to indicate there is an issue with your network settings, when its playing up drop to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all and copy the text into a reply for us to see.
