Hey Guys,

Looking for Laptop in the 250 - 300 price range. This is for my girlfriend and does not need to play games. She would like it to basically respond fast, play dvd's and surf the net. I never use laptops as just build desktop pc's. Any suggestions on where to look or what make to buy, I like the look of the Asus ones and have never had any trouble with their components but are they good for laptops ? I also like the look of the dells but really unsure of build quality ect.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks.

K

Could try the Dell Outlet and look for the Inspiron 1545. My brother has one and its great, especially with the WLED screen (although this won't come on all of them).

Can recommend Advent Roma 1000. Google it!!! can't post rival links on here!!

Helped buy 2 of these for female family relations just before Crimbo. They are not going to set the world on fire but they are more than happy with them for MSN, Facebook, online shopping and girlie stuff!!

Just over your budget. But short of a dodgy back of lorry deal or such like you'll be hard pushed ....sorry

Dell Outlet is a good idea, some good bargains at times.

You might find her favourite colour one if your lucky.

One advantage of buying Dell, HP, Toshiba etc is parts, if something breaks out of warenty there is a high chance you can get it cheap.

If you want to buy a laptop, consider a good brand rather than just cheap. pay a little bit extra for a good brand would be better.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did take a look at the dell ones and thought they were pretty exspensive. I figured it's definately worth paying more the get a core 2 dual core than just getting a single core laptop. I've talked her into that and will put some money towards a core 2 too. I have been looking at Asus X5DIJ as can get it for about 380.00 which I thought was a good deal. I will go check out the Advent Roma 1000 and see what it looks like. What do u guys think of the Asus ? I like there components and use them often but for laptops build quality ?

Hi Kevy ,
just stumbled on to your post as possibly looking to buy a replacement laptop myself .
I personally can recommend asus build quality through my own experience - owned one for 4 years & only probs have been dody usb port through tripping over a wired usb mouse too many times, dvd drive just given up the ghost due to glass of water into keyboard area !!!(GF's fault ) and just this weekend the locking clasp thingys have broken off (after GF took it to Norway without protective case ).
I don't have too much experience with other laptops to be honest, but have taken an Advent of a friends apart to attempt repair and the build quality of my asus (both £700 laptops 4 yrs ago ) is FAR superior in my opinion .
Hope this info is of some help to you , I also hope asus quality has not dropped off since my last purchase as am definately considering another one !
PS sorry for the ramble .
