New liquid armour

Interesting... trouble is that the bullet would also impart most of its force into your leg. In fact, theres a chance that the damage might be worse if your leg has to absrob the bullet attack rather than let it pass right through...

I was wondering about that.

Surley if the kevlar is flexible and no longer rigid, then theres nothing to absorb the force of the bullet and instead you will end up with your whole leg having to stop a pice of metal traveling at 3000 feet per second. Thats gotta hurt!

yeah i suppose there is pros and cons, but hopefully the leg would be better ina a couple of weeks, rather than risk losing it? but i guess the force could still break a bone? heh i dunno :)

It would be more like a giant Bruis or a giant welt then a whole.
With the possibility of broken bones.

Ultra light Chain mail For the win

I read about this stuff the other week, it's very interesting.

The additive allows the kevlar to be thinner and flexible compared to current body armour, but the moment a bullet hit's it, it solidifies!, there was a video about somewhere, I'll see if I can find it, in the video, the bullet bounced off the new flexible kevlar armour!.

The video was posted :p
And it said every thing you just did

its not just bullets though, it would be ideal for the police force in knife attacks etc.

Anyone know the cost of this?
It would be good to have if you go to the more **** parts of citys :p

Yer, surley there is a high risk of broken bones etc, but then I suppose its better than getting shot!!!

The most damage a bullet can make is when it leaves an exit wound. If it cant penetrate the skin then it wont be able to leave an exit wound so the wound you get will probably be more broken bones and deep bruising and would be much easier to fix up then having to close up and sow down chunks of loose and damaged flesh

Very interesting stuff. Materials research at the moment is producing some very nice results. Ican't get into the real world and do some :D

Surely the liquid additive to the kevlar will absorb the majority of the impact, and a bullet travelling through the leg would do an awful lot more damge than a bullet bouncing off and causing bruising

Well a ceramic/carbon composite body armour is still very effective as it spreads out the impact force by the formation of a larger number of cracks throughout the layers, but unfortunately is pretty heavy.

One of my mates down at the local army barracks was shot with and AK47.

There is a pencil sized whole where the bullet went in, looks like someone has put a fag out on him. It enter by his right shoulder blade and exited through his right bicep.

Its as though someone took a carving knife and just cut away all the muscle of his outside bicep/tricep and took it right down to the bone!

not nice.

Tjhats what they are probably hoping to stop with this :)

What happens if you fall over quite hard and are wearing this stuff? Would it all go solid and you'd be stuck? :D
