New Lotus Esprit - Want that one!

The industry grapevine suggests Lotus has struck a deal for the Esprit to use BMW's legendary 400bhp 4941cc V8, from the E39 M5 – an engine with response and torque rust so intoxicating that some pine for it even after sampling the latest M5's 500bhp V10. In the BMW, the V8 produced 400bhp. But it's hugely tunable – Ascari has ramped peak power to 500bhp in its KZ1.

On the link if you read right at the bottom it says those pics are not of the written off design. So could be a bit different!

I'm a massive Lotus fan but that is not a Lotus...

Bring back Project M250....

And for gods sake don't use the BMW engine - develop your own...like the fabulous Twin Turbo V8 in the Esprit

Lotus is a pretty small company. It's cheaper and more reliable to just use third party engines and tune the nuts off them. If Lotus developed their own engine, there's a good chance there'd be serious reliability issues and that'd of course be very bad for their reputation.

The Esprit is all about power and IMO that BMW engine (with the appropriate Lotus tuning) is perfect. Will be nice and reliable too.

IMO Lotus is a company that is going to be going places once its got the Europa and Esprit rolling off production lines. If they could score a contract in a few years with the guys who make James Bond again it would really bring the company to the forefront again!
