So, I'm a bit confused by alignment.

I used Partition Wizard Bootable CD to take an image of my existing Agility 3 60Gb boot up disk onto my new M4. No prep work was done on the M4 other than flashing the latest firmware.

Everything seems to function ok but when I ran AS SSD Benchmark the alignment has BAD next to it.

Having done some more research, in msinfo32, my "Partition Starting Offset" is 2097152 which is an exact multiple of 4096.

Am I going loopy? Do I need to be concerned?

Don't like the idea of doing a fresh install. My whole premise on getting this drive was built on a foundation of laziness!

Do the speeds look ok? Maybe it's a bug in the benchmark tool?

Well you can get much more lazy then just sitting there for a few hours watching windows and all it updates/drivers install............

Sounds like a perfect thing to do for you :p

No it not a bug,it a problem you get when cloning sometimes
Maybe your cloning software does not 100% support cloning to SSD drives

Acronis True Image Home 2011 supports cloning with alignment for SSD
Acronis products support Solid State Drives (SSD) with certain limitations

Description

The following Acronis products have full Solid State Drive (SSD) support:
Acronis Backup & Recovery 11
Acronis True Image Home 2011
Acronis True Image Home 2012
Acronis Disk Director 11 Home

All other Acronis products support Solid State Drives (SSD) with certain limitations:
You can perform all the same operations with SSDs as with regular hard disk drives;
There are no special partition alignment mechanisms required to keep the partitions offset which is optimal for SSD drives. In other words when you restore an image to an SSD drive, it will get the default 63 sectors offset instead of 64kb (or a multiple of 64kb) offset recommended for SSD drives even if this offset was in place when the image had been created. This may result in a drop of performance on certain models of SSD drives after the restore;
Support for SSD drives is also planned for the next version of the Acronis Backup & Recovery product line.

More information

A multiple of 64kb (most commonly, 1024kb or 2048 sectors) is the recommended offset for SSD disks.

Full support details:

If you restore or clone a disk image to an SSD disk, the offset will be automatically set to the default 1024kb (2048 sectors).
If you restore a partition backup to a target empty partitioned disk (SSD), the target SSD disk will keep its original offset.

Fair points and kick up the bum acknowledged. I need to do something. I'll have a look at the alignment tools and if that fails, I'll go with the full format approach.

Cloning drives with third party software sounds like a splendid way to build inefficiencies into the system.

Agreed. It's a brilliant idea but in the long run nothing beats a fresh install.

This was my first journey into HD cloning and will be my last. I've learnt my lesson!

I might use my 64gb for the intel rst thing. That is until I need the room.
