Yeah, Apple didn't do Price Drops even when $ was close to 2:1 exchange rate. The previous Mac Pro 2.8Ghz remained within £30 buffer above £1700 since it's introduction and despite price of Xeon chips falling considerably and memory prices falling through the floor. But the truth was, they were actually very, very reasonably priced for 8 core workstations, and a lot of media and cad people bought them to actually run windows.
Which brings me to another note - which might be useful for Concorde Rules - apparently in 8 core Harpertown configs, for Windows gaming/OSX working users 2.8Ghz were best choice because there is 70W heat dissipation difference between dual 2.8Ghz and dual 3.2Ghz versions. In OSX it's more than survivable, but after adding second gfx card for Windows, while gaming the same case had to suddenly cope with equivalent of two to three 100W light bulbs heating it from the inside...
