I'm sure most have you have seen this, just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. New materials? Would you put up with a bump in cost of the MacBook?

I think a lot of the changes suggested are quite sensible, new keyboard, oversized trackpad etc. Also seems to suggest the gap between MacBook and MBP will be as small as it's ever been. How long can they keep multitouch away from peasant-folk like myself? Surely it's better for the platform and cheaper to manufacture the new trackpads for all Mac laptops.

It's good news for me as I was thinking about replacing my MacBook this year. It's a great laptop but looking a little tatty these days - it's been used almost daily for the past two years and has had it's fair share of knocks against door frames etc. I was considering a MBP for the more solid materials but I can see myself going MacBook again, save it having any major malfunctions.

That probably means that the MBPs will adopt the same keyboards as the MB and the MBA, not a good thing imo.

I can see the need to change the MacBook from the plastic enclosures but I don't think that the Pro needs quite as much dental work.

Can't really see any drastic changes to the MBP apart from the keyboard to be honest. I'm interested in seeing whether the new MB and MBPs will adopt the same packaging as the Air though, I quite like that whole iPhone-like box packaging :)

Can't see it happening any time soon as they've just upgraded the mbp's. There's not much I'd change, only make hard disc changes easier and I'd love upgradable cpu's.

Well aluminium is better for weight and heat dissipation. Considering they have just released the MacBook Air with an aluminium shell and switched the iMacs and iPods to aluminium fairly recently it seems like it was inevitable.

Same rumers from September/October just reposted as theres nothing else to report really.....

I dont get what the big fuss is over a the MR forums about either i mean the MBP will so from a thin silver rectangle that runs OSX to wait for it................................... a similar thin silver rectangle that runs OSX :O

Yeh its nice to have the latest and greatest but serriously its a computer. It does not matter if the case design is 6 years old. I mean theres some people on there that have waited 12+months just for a case re-design, thats just insane!

I actually really like the design of the MBP, I think it's a great selling point, does it really matter if it's however many years old? Is it worth waiting for the bus speed to be bumped up to 1066Mhz?

Ears pop up..

Certainally hope they've sorted the heat issue with the Core2Duo and the MBP otherwise there's no point in doing it..

I have to say the case design is perfect - although they could get rid of the grey plastic.

The MBP is there for speed (in terms of a laptop!). Although a Xeon QC running at full bus speed would be interesting, it would probably defeat the battery very quickly. My computer absolutely crucifies the battery on big jobs so I only do that now with the power lead plugged in..

Couldn't agree more, the keyboards on their new products are terrible IMO.

Would really like to see them add a blu-ray drive to the MBP, up the resolution on the screen a bit and perhaps bring out a 13" MBP model, i.e. a MacBook made of aluminium for a bit of a premium but without making as many cuts in usability terms that the Air has.

Also isn't black aluminium a bit overdue as a bto option? :p

The only things that have stopped me buying one recently was this rumour the FSB is going up to 1066, and that I don't know if I want the 15 or 17 inch model. I'm used to 1680x1050, 1440x900 would limit me a bit I feel.

What heat issue?

Mines 40C at idle and 70C at full load.

I see nothing wrong with that.

Well I was thinking about changing my macbook to a pro unit around december... but i think that, even if we do see new models I'll probably hang around until MWSF '09...

Looks promising though :)

Hmm... this is so kicking start the rumours about the whole iPhone/iPod Touch type MacBook - defo Blue Ray and SSD part of the hardware... :)
