I've been contemplating getting a unibody Macbook for a few weeks now.

I'm currently using a Core Duo 2ghz 1st Gen Macbook which is fine apart from a few battery issues.

Now I want a new one because its all shiny and new etc, but is it worth the upgrade in terms of will I actually see much of a difference?

I can probably get around £400, maybe a bit more for the Core Duo on auction sites.

Currently I use the system mainly for browsing and light Photoshop use now and then.

And is it worth getting the 2.4ghz above the 2.0ghz, apart from the obvious illuminated keyboard etc.

If I do buy it'll be with a full HE discount.

Answers on a postcard :p

Id personally find your current laptop slow. Hell i find my core 2 quad sluggish at times, so my answer would be yes.

The new Macbook is quite a chunk faster than what you have currently.

Its used for browsing only - It runs perfectly well with like 67678687678 tabs open in safari.

I dont really have any speed issues with it.

If you find a Core 2 Quad sluggish then how the hell would you find a MacBook provides you with the speed you need?

I'd say that you'd be wasting your money upgrading - you already have a dual core Intel based Mac, you admitted it's not struggling with anything so why spend £450+ to change it?

My father has the old MacBook, and it feels fine in general usage, however, if you can afford the upgrade then I think it's worth it

Rigs in my sig, first gen Q6600, wont go past 3Ghz and its barley stable there, 4GB of ram and an 8800GTX and a 24". I think its running at around 2.8 at the moment.

I get a lot of slow downs during the latest titles, which is kind of annoying.

I'm using a 7200 HDD and 2gb Ram.

I think I'll wait, only reason for getting the new one is becuase its shiny and I cant justify £500 for that. :(

It's a tough one isn't it. I've just upgraded from a perfectly workable MB 2.2/4Gb/320 to a MBP 2.4/4GB/320(7200).

I didn't need to, I wanted to. I'm glad I did - it's a lot smoother at virtualisation and I'm loving the screen.

One thing I find odd with the Apple world is that it's almost uncool not to have the latest bang up to date model - I've got caught up with it personally too. In the PC world you tend not to give a toss as everything seems to get updated slightly every other day - you end up not caring
