New Macbook

If you look at the CPU benchmarks in the above review there's isn't actually much difference in performance between the 13" rMBP and the new 12" Macbook. Also the entry level MBP comes with a miserly 128GB SSD so to match the Macbook you'll almost certainly want to spend the extra for the 256Gb version which is several hundred more than the Macbook.

Personally given the current MBP has been out for years and is based on a fairly old chipset/CPU/design I think the Macbook is a much better buy if you want a new laptop right now. That might change in a couple of months time when Apple refresh the MBP though.

The problem with those benchmarks it shows what the Macbook can do in short burst, but given it has no fan it will slow down pretty soon where as the 13" rMBP will keep going. Also geekbench is not a great indicator off performance.

Was recently testing it out with my normal workload and the difference was honestly night and day, which makes perfect sense given the large difference in power usage between the CPUs. We actually give anyone that doesn't need a lot of power the Macbook now at work and they all enjoy it, for light workloads its a great machine.

I do think its a bit on the pricey side but its a unique machine given its the lightest and most portable Mac so Apple can charge a bit more.

I'm personally looking forward too a 13" rMBP thats a bit smaller and comes in different colours, so bored of seeing wave after wave of silver laptops with glowing apple logos haha.
