ThinkSecret reports that Apple is set to introduce new MacBook updates soon after the release of Mac OS X Leopard (10.5). Leopard is rumored to be launched on October 26th, and the rumor site expects the new MacBooks to be in the hands of consumers "by the first half of November, if not sooner."

According to their sources, the MacBook update will be a relatively modest update, and simply bump processor speeds. It's unknown if the new MacBooks will adopt the Santa Rosa architecture that adopted by the MacBook Pros in June. ThinkSecret also believes this will be the last Apple hardware revision before the holidays.

These expectations don't entirely correlate with September rumors of a slim aluminum MacBook arriving "soon".

The last MacBook update was May 15, 2007.

I have a feeling the "New" Macbook will not be inc in the Free Nano deal (they want to shift old stock, no?)

I like my Core Dual MB, white finish e.t.c. Not too keen on the whole Aluminium thing for somethat 13" wide, unless it's bigger and more professional like the MBP.

The free Nano/student offer ends at the end of this month. Going on that rumour, it'll end 15 days earlier than the new MacBooks come out. As you say, perfect for shifting the old stock.

I think a bigger MacBook would be silly - it's that size for a reason. Although I would be forever grateful if they upped the resolution. (I assume you could squeeze a bit more out of the screen)

I'm not saying the MacBook should be bigger, just that the Aluminium finish should be reserved for the Bigger Daddies of the Apple Laptop range and keep the smaller one more "casual" if you get what I mean.

i.e. Aluminium MB is not my cuppa unless it's going to be a shocking change to the design...

Understand what you're saying. I like my MacBook Pro and the aliminium gives it a sort of 'class cut' above the normal MacBooks. It's not a snobbish thing, I just like the segregation between the two.

I think the MacBooks will have more black in the design than the MBPs - although it's anybodys guess.

I can believe an aluminium casing - just look at the new iMac.

It would have to be something amazing to even make me consider replacing my current MacBook. A new case and a marginal bump in specs isnt going to do it. A backlit keyboard would be awesome but we're getting into MBP territory.

Great for people looking to buy though. :)

It will be aluminium. Jobs was banging on about how great it and glass were and how it was going to play an integral role in their new products.

Black and aluminium mix would be nice.

Will be nice if they get round to changing the keyboard of the MBP's to that of the current MacBook :)

Not so sure I'd want to see / if they'll release a 12" MBP though.

If they do an Aluminium + Glass finish on the MacBook it'll just cause confusion imo.

How likely is it that this will happen? I want a MB quite soon. I like the white but looking at the new iMacs i think a MB version would look great.

Thanks

Doubt this will happen, MBs were updated in may and the current design is the 2nd newest of all apple designs (after new iMac). Apple want to keep their Consumer and Pro lines seperate and making the MB alu would make it more of a mini MBP rather than a cheap consumer laptop as it is atm, tempting people from Windows.

The only reason I believe it will happen is because the MacBooks usually follow suit (on the chips) a few months after the MacBook Pros.

It's about the right time for them to get the Santa Rosa platform, then in Janurary the MBPs will get the next big thing.

...I can't see the design changing though :)

Theres no reason why they wont bump the specs to Santa Rosa and I wouldnt be a bit surprised to see the design change. If anything, it think it is almost likely. Apple seem to be gravitating away from the "iPod white" style in favour of more metal and glossy black. Just look at the store; you cant buy a white iPod anymore.

Although I think they would make a killing if they offered the MacBook in the nano/shuffle colours.

Im hoping for a slight upgrade with the MBPs this month.

200Gb 7200RPM, maybe 2.6ghz C2D, 8700GT gfx.

Don't mind really, just the 200Gb 7200 is a must, might save me some money and get a Apple Center to install one I buy

It's so easy I'd say it's probably better to do it yourself :)

Not sure they'll bump the graphics or cpu speed, but a bigger HDD is a certanty if they are updated!

Cheers for the Intel link EVH.
I don't think I can wait much longer though. Going for a MBP November time I rekon. :D

I thought a user HDD upgrade voided the warranty for MBP's?
