Hi everyone,

I'm building a new gaming machine and i've pretty much got all the specs sorted out except the GFX card.

At the moment the specs are:

Cooler Master Centurion 590
AMD Phenom II X4 955 - Black Edition
Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe
Corsair XMS2 8GB PC2-6400 800Mhz
OCZ 600W Stealth XStream PSU
500GB HDD
Vista Home Premium x64
24" Iiyama Prolite E2407HDS-B1 (1920x1080)

I'm stuck between 3 graphics cards:

ATI Radeon 4870x2
Geforce GTX285 XXX
2 x Geforce 260 SLI

Now i've read more benchmarks then you can shake a stick at and the 4870x2 seems to come on top pretty much most of the time expcept when put agaisnt the 295 (which i can't afford)

Does anyone have any of the above, and what do you think of it? Which would be best for the 24" Iiyama at 1920x1080?

Thank you :D

i'd go for the 285 will run fine on the monitor/res you indicated

had a look for specs on that mobo and didnt see any that said it could run sli
 so if you plan to add another card maybe worth going with the x2 4870

Also, if you think i should change a certain part of the machine (any part), let me know as i want to build a good stable machine.

Thanks.

First of all when building a gaming PC try choosing the graphics card first and then build the rest of the system around the card!

Id go for a HD 4890.

Ok - the MAX that i could afford is £1300, so what could i get for that? (With Vista as well)

Thanks.

Ok, if you've upped your budget then, change the 4890 for a 4870X2, add a bigger PSU and vista.

Oh, and can someone confirm that a 4870X2 will fit in the 300 case?

i'd go with icey's original spec with the 4890, maybe change the cooler to the Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler and get vista.

Would you guys say that the i7 920 is better then the AMD 955?

I've looked at benchmarks and the 955 beats the i7 pretty much all the time...
