I have just purchased a new MBP and looking to upgrade the HDD to a SSD version. Having done a lot of research I am torn between the OCZ Vertex 3 and the Intel 320 / 510 SSD drives.

There seems to be many great reviews for the OCZ and an equal number of good reviews for the Intel 510. The disapointing factor on the Intel is the read write speeds at face value, whether this will make a lot of difference im not to sure.

Just looking for a bit of advice from anyone who has tried the two drives and any experience of them in MBP's

I use a substantial amount of the Intel SSD's in builds for customers. I would say about 50 a month at the moment. I have done benchmarks on the drives i prefer to use and these are the Intel 320/510 Series, the Kingston HyperX and the OCZ Vertex 3. Even though the HyperX and the Vertex3 perform better the fact is that in real world performance there isnt a great deal in it. Even though the Intel 320 Series is a SATA2 drive there is probably milliseconds in booting and opening programs. Where you will see the difference is going to be in hdd intensive apps such as video editing programs etc. If its just for OS/Programs i would recomend the Intel 320 Series. But that said the Kingston HyperX is also a contender. Another big factor for me is warranty. I can get a AWR Intel HDD Next day. A little longer for the Kingston and dragging its heals is the OCZ. Not sure if its changed (In the last 12 months) but the RMA procedure for the OCZ Stuff was terrible. What other company has a RMA proceedure that goes through a forum for god sake???

Anyway the Intel 510 is a great drive as well but at £45 + VAT more than the HyperX if i was buying one for myself for a build i would go for the HyperX...

Hope that helps.. A little.. lol..
