Gotta sort a new keyboard out... Being eyeing up the Corsair k70 RGB for a long while but I refuse to spend £150... Just want a decent mech board, dont necessarily need a numpad but I'd like some back light...

What are my options?

Personally I recommend the Razer Mechanical keyboards. I have had mine over 3 years, not had a single issue and still works to this date.

I did purchase a corsair K95 but was not happy with it. It crashed on me a few times and froze completely... yes the keyboard.

I return it and received a refund (Corsair Support were fantastic), to which I am now going to buy the Razer Blackwidow Chroma I think as I already love my current keyboard.

I will stand behind the steelseries apex k800 keyboard all day long!!! Absolutely love it and fits within your budget.

In terms of led customisation it is on par with the rest, and for macros the software is amazing! I have a full set now, headphones, mouse and keyboard from steelseries and I cant fault any.

Edit: In addition, they do a version that only has white leds that is cheaper than the above and has the same macro functionality.

I really want to suggest the NovaTouch but I honestly can't put my word on it for someone to buy at its current price, especially if you think the fully featured K70 is too much at £150. If you want to try it I suggest this: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18683673 - It's the best keyboard I have ever owned for typing, just lacks a little features as you can see on the user reviews.

I owned a K70 but I wasn't too fond of the red switches - The K70 is a great board if you like Cherry Reds/Browns, it's robust, has raised keys above the backplate which are awesome for easy cleaning with a can of compressed air, easy to remove individual keys for cleaning, and has a volume scroll wheel. Also you can make it light up however you want. It's a good board for its old cost of £120-130.

I personally went with the DAS Keyboard Ultimate 4 with Blues - I don't use my keyboard for gaming so Reds and Browns didn't appeal to me.

This is the dilemma I'm in... I've not owned a feature heavy board before. The board I'm currently using is an old mechanical my (late :() grandad had years ago but I keep going back to despite trying others out... It has developed an annoying ghosting issue now though so has to go.

I'm not a huge typist so I think the more gaming orientated reds/browns appeal more and I want to have a couple of macro keys too. Backlighting is the biggy for me I think though due to gaming in the dark... I guess ultimately I will have to try a few out in store...

Thanks for your help guys!

Ive got a Razer Blackwido chroma. Absolutely amazing keyboard. If you want a cheaper alternative which is decent and backlit go for the CM Storm Trigger Z. Its roughly around £90.

I've been looking at similar stuff. Want the k70 but it's too pricey. Currently leaning heavily toward the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate.

About 2 days ago I received the Razer BlackWidow Chroma and I have to say its beautiful.

It's much better than my BlackWidow Ultimate 2013 and Personally its a lot better than the Corsair K95. It feels much sturdier than the K95 and the lighting is much better.

I made a little comparison to the BlackWidow Ultimate 2013 here; Clicky

Cool, thanks. I will be going for the 2014 edition I think.

Just wondering, why do people go for RGB keyboards? Is it just the wow-factor, or is there actually a practical reason?

I went for the Chroma because I like Shinies. There isn't any difference in the BlackWidow Ultimate / BlackWidow Chroma just one has green lighting and the other has changeable lighting.

My build is Green / Purple so I like having it so the keyboard is green and when A key is pressed it turns purple and fades back to green.

I got the non chroma one for like £60 in a flash sale from Razer. I wanted a Corsair, but for the price it was a no brainer really. It works well, my mate complains it's not as good as his Corsair but I disagree.
