Funny how I've not had a problem in 25,000 miles isn't it.

My cars have a hard life. Everything needed replacing apart from... you guessed it, the head gasket.

Don't say things like that mate, you know full well that your 220's HG is going to fail next week now! :p

I remember a while ago posting how happy I was with the reliability of my Cav. One week later, it was laid up in the garage for a week, whilst they tried to trace the electrical problems that wouldn't let it fire up...Boo!!

The back street garage my old man uses for his k series 94' 214sei used to charge £200/£250. Failed more than once, but my dad also don't believe in topping coolant up and regular servicing.

Have no idea what prices would be quoted anywhere else though, i'd think a tad higher

One place I found with a quick search (looking at an MG at the moment) quoted £700 for the job

It's not cheap

You can reuse the stretch bolts for one, cam belt(unless worn) and bearing tensioner, also i bet if you got a torque wrench, a spare saturday, and a haynes manual you could do it yourself, however i would buy the better head gasket not just the one with thin beads of neoprene, but a much more solid black one with a shim on to stop the top of the head gasket from eating into the cylinder head. i recon that you can reuse stretch bolts abut 3 times on the k series and it will be fine. If i were you idd look on flebay or at an autohypermarket place for the parts as you may find that the experiance, tools and price is a lot more beneficial to you.

What the ****?!?!?!

Stretch bolts are designed to be used ONCE.

They stretch at the correct tension.

They do not return to their original form once removed.
