Hi,

I decided about 12 months ago to build my own pc tower, it has worked ok but I have always felt I should be getting a bit more from it.
I primarily built it to run a simulater called VRC pro

Currently scores around 2k on 3dmark.

gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 4.1 running f4 bios
amd fx6300 6 core
16g singe channel ddr3 (8g x2) Kingston 666mhz in slot 1 and 3
sapphire radion 7750 hd
cheap and maybe not so cheerful hdd and dvdrw
same with the psu without opening her up I'd guess a 550w

So why have I joined and what do I want?

-You guys have a good reputation and I decided I really am clueless ha

-To be able to run the game at a decent enough frame rate I must turn down options, ideally I'd like to be able to run everything on full blast!

I have a limited budget for upgrading as the current system pretty much is the current budget, but I would be willing to swap out a couple of components if necessary.
 
Budget, kind of says in my first post really, not looking at spending fortunes but open to suggestions, I'd say upto a max of 300 but ideally less.
 
Unless I missed it I didn't see £300 in the first post? Sorry.

PSU - Nice and reliable brand
Mobo - Will allow you to OC your 6300
GPU - Very good for the money.

I know it's slightly over but I'd say worth it.
 
Yeah, same card with different cooling. The Asus one is slightly OC'd but you can do that yourself real easy. Asus might be better actually with the dual fan. Make sure they'll fit in your case though.
 
I am just weighing up the options at the minute and plan to make my mind up in the next week or so.

One more thing ... When I do a windows experience test the lowest score is 5.9 which is for the hdd, the other scores are 7.4 or 7.5.
How much will the performance of the hdd effect game play?
Do games write to the hdd during gameplay?
If I were to upgrade as you have suggested above what would the 3dmark score be approx.?
 
What is your current HDD? I'm not a 100% on this but I'm pretty sure it won't effect actual gameplay. It will however effect your load times, a slow HDD will take longer to load up than a fast one. Once in the game it will use the RAM as it's memory, again not 100% sure on this but I'm pretty sure it's right!

Really can't tell you the 3dmark score sorry.
 
It would seem I do need to upgrade the following as you have suggested:
PSU
Mobo
GPU
RAM
You have posted you suggestions but what if the budget changed?
I worked to a budget last time and here I am upgrading the bits I saved on previously thus spending more overall :(
What if I were to upgrade bit at a time? Meaning the £300 can be concentrated rather than trying to be spread too far?
Where would you start?
 
Well say £300 now, to spend on one or more of the components, then save again for the next item and so on, enabling me to buy better spec equipment over a longer period of time.
If it made sense in the long run spend the whole £300 on a GPU?
