In about a months time ill be buying a new pc and im currently looking at the memory options available to me. Is it possible, to connect 2, 2gb sticks or 4, 1gb sticks onto a mobo to attain 4gb?

Also, what will I have to look for in terms of memory compatability with the mobo?

Thanks in advance,

most if not all new boards will support 512Mb:2x256MbB upto 4Gb:4x1Gb or more. (more slots) in pairs.

If your are buying a ready made box... Dell/HP/Advent etc then these machines tend to have proprietry motherboards and can be awkward to upgrade. You may find there are only 2 slots and you need to replace existing memory. You may find there are onboard graphics and no PCI-e or AGP slot for upgrade. Best to ask as much about the upgradeability of any pre-built PC that you can before you buy.

Places such as OcUK supply pre-built systems and bundles built from retail parts, the parts used are listed. This allows you to get reviews and any information on comatibility issues and upgradeability before you buy.

If building a PC from scratch decide on motherboard and features you want. Once you decide you can then find out if there are any memory compatibility issues with that board. Usually there are none. Memory compatibility is normally not an issue.

hope this helps
