Its a '95 E280, with leather. The drivers seat is worn and the wings are rusty like most of them but otherwise its wonderful. Only done 110,000 (all MOTs to prove) and you can barely tell then the 'box is shifting. Coming from my knackered 5er the quality of the ride and the lack of rattles is just amazing for a 13 year old car.

There are some great engineering touches on it, like the mono wiper that covers nearly all of the screen, and the bonnet stay mechanism that goes vertical so its easy to work on. Clever stuff.

I got the plate valued by regtransfers and they say they'd try and sell it for £400. Is this legit?

Lovely car mate, even more so for the money! Makes me wonder why people ever bother with non premium cars.

Rust is sadly a given, both of my current merc's are losing to the dreaded stuff :(

Nice barge for the dosh.

The plate is probably worth a few bob too, yeah. Especially if you punt it yourself rather than sell through somewhere like Reg Transfers.

Seems like a good buy to me. Getting it recarpeted would really lift the interior. Hopefully you are able to do repairs yourself though as I believe the Merc dealers don't have a good rep?

Rgds

Nope its an old one like in this thread. Me and my dad have started doing a spot of property development and i use it for carting crap around all day :)

Sorry OP, i dont mean to derail the thread :)

So how would I go about selling the plate privately? Surely its hard to find someone who wants the SAX unless you have a broad reach.

id be tempted to renew the gearbox oil, service all the ignition bits and the hunt out dodgy vac hoses/electrical connections and see how well you can get it to run.

nice car for the money :P

Thing is the DVLA still have M90SAX for £245 including transfer fees so you'd have to undercut that by some margin to overcome the security of buying from the DVLA over 'some randomer', by which point it's barely worth the bother selling.

Got the service bits from GSF yesterday, new filters and plugs, got some Mobil S 10/40w semi syth from Halfords so ready for a good spruce up.

Changing the ATF looks pretty involved and its always a pain to do without a lift so I might pay someone to do that if it lasts a few months.

I think I'll just have a punt on regtransfers, if they get even anyone interested even at a couple of hundred quid it'll make a cheap car even cheaper.

halfords mobil is about £20 from what i remember. gsf do fuchs titan 10w40 and thats only £13 so well good for the money, for future reference.

top car though
