Details are still sketchy on them - Gossip http://www.mini2.com, you may be able to find something on http://www.miniaddiction.co.uk

But the new R56 is pretty good (I think the Sidwalk will prolly be the equilivant to the R53 Checkmate)

Minis are great cars to own, had mine just over a month now and I still love it :)

Problem with Mini's is thier range of asthmatic, underpowered and wheezy engines with the exception of the Cooper S, although isn't the R56 fitted with a more up to date 1.6?

Indeed, shared PSA engine now instead of the old Chrysler unit. 1.4 in the One, 1.6 TD in the Cooper D, 1.6T in the Cooper S.

I want a new clubman :(

it will be the soft top option with the awsome wheels, infact its much better than the park lane she has now.

I think they're only available in soft-top tbh...

Only problem is its only a ONE on the inside, she'll get a max of 110bhp... which still pulls fine...

We actually shoved a ONE unmodded at Powerstation, we got 112bhp out of it a good 24bhp over what it apparently has..

But I can imagine how nice it will look :)

The Sidewalk is mechanically identical to the current MINI convertible. They look great in sparkling silver with the brown leather. ( I was sitting in one 10 mins ago) wheels look awesome Ive got one on order as my demo coming next month.
Ive Got an S convertible now. Great car. honest assesment: look great,go great, well built, handle near aswell as hatchback. Use loads of fuel. Get the LSD and definately Harman Kardan and heated seats. Alternatively come buy it off me and I will spec one up properly for you. ;)

Cooper s aint that quick either 0-60 is so old 0-100 is what counts now ;). Going from a cooper s to a 3l bm makes such a difference, even if book indicates that the auto is close to the book 0-60 of the cooper s, away from the lights in sports mode my 3l flys

All the MK1 Cooper S is, is a fuel guzzler. Actually the whole range, my mum gets 29mpg out of her 55 plate Cooper and she drives it like a saint. The 2.2 Coupe Mtech 3 series BMW she had before used to do about 32mpg lol.

True for the "old" Mini. None of the engines in the new Mini are shared with the old car.

you mean you can't get an 'A' Series engine under the bonnet of that BMW money making machine? I'm definately not getting one now ;)

True. But its a matter of taste.

Fuel econmoy wise, both the R53 and 56 varients of the Coopers S, you will be very lucky to get anything above 30 odd MPG..

My R53 ONE gets about 43 mpg when im doing the run to work and back... and as for the engines being 'astmathic' id hardly call them that, my ONE even being the basic of the basic still packs a punch... the cooper S on the other hand belts.. have you driven one? because from the people im accosciated with, they say for such a small engine, its pretty damn quick.

I owned one, fuel economy in my BM returns just slightly less and thats a 3 litre. It rattled, it squeeked, the ride on the run flats was terrible. It was not even particularly quick, only thing going for it is the looks IMO. Worst car I have owned in all respects dealers, build quality, reliability. I had mine six months and it went though 2 clutches, flywheel, gearbox, aux belt and engine mount. It just had to go.

The new one which I have not driven maybe very different :)

I've only driven the One and the Cooper. Both felt gutless unless you absolutely caned them.

Well I quite like mine :) have had it for a year now without a hitch (spreads whole body over a section of wooden desk!!)

I Get an average of 33MPG (with some spirited driving) and I've recently ditched the run-flats which has improved the ride and feel.

I'm sure the new one is slightly more effecient...but I prefer the look of the r53 by far.
