Hi all,
I've been out of the computer loop for quite a while, so I'm a bit clueless now it comes to spec myself a new one.

My trusty Q6600 based steed has finally died a death so I'm looking to downsize to mITX as I hope it will future proof me in terms of flexibility of space.

The budget is £450-500 and all I need is the hardware (No OS or monitor etc.) with no SSD or HDD as they are already sorted.

As for use, it will be a bit of everything, a bit of gaming (assetto corsa and might finally be able to play new games!) and also some light CAD and simulation work.

Would be great to hear what you think may be best!

Thanks

I am running my mITX Asrock Z77E-ITX with a non clocked i7 2700k. Let me tell you- this little thing boots much faster every time than my workstation with 3930k CPU and it packs quite a punch.
I will admit- it's a relatively old CPU but it still hold its ground and it runs very cold even when I am rendering on it continuously. Besides it is considerably faster then what you had so far.

Good luck mate.

Hey,

I have been looking at this recently as I need a portable PC, so I was looking for a case/mobo/cooler/psu to fit my existing i7 3770, 16Gb RAM, SSD GPU etc into.
In the end I decided on a shuttle as I wanted to keep my 4x4Gb RAM, and the Shuttle mobo is the only one that supports 4 sticks of RAM.

So from my experience one question will be how much RAM do you want/need, either 2x4Gb or 2x8Gb.

Also you may be interested in a good deal on a case at the moment, do a google on the below and you should find a company selling it at almost half price at the moment:

Coolermaster Elite 120 ITX PC Case Black

Thanks guys, this is what I'm currently thinking.

Not sure on the case yet, does anyone know a case that will fit 2x3.5 HDD and 1x2.5 SSD as that would be ideal. (Thanks Lexeus - i will take a look at the Coolermaster case)

Is there anywhere I've gone wrong with the spec or anywhere i could improve?

Cheers

Hi,

if you are going for a case that fits a standard size PSU, then do you really need a low profile Graphics card?

Or looking at it from the other point of view, if you want a super compact case that requires a low profile graphics card, then that PSU probably may not fit! :)

The Cooler Master case will fit a standard PSU and dual slot graphics card, you could save some money or get a better card, that is all.
