new mitx project plan

Disappointing in the z97s... Cpu voltages when ocing,, lack of z97 fearures on some itx (new ssd ports but is that a concern as ive only just got an ssd...) im just confused. Msi itx can hit 5ghz in a review, Hmmm.

Thinking of waiting for devil canyon and see if theres a rog itx? Just annoying as my pc constantly bsods etc which I think is down to the mobo or psu so do need a new rig to be able to just play some games!

Half tempted to get the parvum itx and psu etc now and wait for issues to be reviewed more and things to settle down, have been burnt before buying latest things that have had problems and new revisions come out etc. Other half is telling me for 10 or 20quid I can get a full size gaming 7 and a free cooler... :/

random update, my keyboard wont hold charge, and will only work if the usb cable is plugged in. Have contacted logitech, seems very strange though.

was actually going to buy the asus z97 itx the otherday, was 2 in stock, then 0 :( lol

Waiting for warranty approval for my keyboard now :(

good news is: got a 4770k and 16gb 2400mhz beast ram coming my way.

edit: sod it, went for an asus z97i and the strider 450w g psu :) will update when I get it all up and working.

will try and scrape together for a parvum in next few paycheques!

Really interested in how you get on with the z97i, as I'm debating on taking the plunge myself.
Have a good 4670k and a gigabyte z87n and I manage 4.4ghz before heat becomes an issue. Looking at the gigabyte gaming g5 or them msi gaming but both on back order ??? So asus is the only available and I'm getting itchy fingers. Lol

Hope it works out :D

thanks :D got it all installed and working, its so nice to be able to play a game for more than 10 mins before a crash!
I was the same, would have like the giga or the msi but, was getting to the point where I couldnt wait any more and needed a functioning pc.

Haven't tried overclocking yet, think I need some help on that part :P

Parts now:

asus z97i
4770k h60
16gb kingston beast 2400mhz
gtx 570
silverstone 450w gold psu
seagate 460gb ssd

Was messing with the oc today, everything I did failed and the auto tune went on for over 45mins so I stopped it :/ lol. Randomly sat at 3.8 (no idea how) and doesnt get too toasty so im happy at the moment. Will look into it a lot more though and do some research. Being able to use my pc for more than 30mins is amazing!

The little Silverstone psu is tiny!! Seems to cope well too, cant hear it over my stock lianli fan which needs replacing soon!

Boot and shutdown take an age so need to look into that. Will throw some pics up Wednesday or so :)

Shame to hear about the OC problems. Seems many having similar issues with Z97 chipsets. Maybe we need more stable bios for them to settle in.

Tbh with oc'ing manual is always the best way. :D 4.2ghz should be doable ,, but I'm hoping to reach 4.6ghz+ in time with z97 and my 4670k.

Forgot to mention sourced the MSI Z97i GAMING mini itx board , should be hear tomorrow and hoping it compares with its z87 sibling.

let me know how you get on.

sat at 4.3 (if i do x44 ratio in aisuite it bluescreens) at the moment with 1066mhz ram, (set xmp profile on and it decided not to die for a change)

hasn't touched 60 degrees yet playing bf4 :)

ive still got 14days dsr, so i could drive up to ocuk on the 12th if worst comes to it.

Let me know what the msi is like, I still love the look of it!

well tweaktown have just put out a review with a 4770k sitting at 4.9ghz -.- More learning is needed on this one! lol

Nice little surprise in the post today.

A spank new logitech k810 :D! Emailed logitech about the issue, didnt hear anything after they said it was being looked into setting up an rma, was going to email Monday to chase it up. Hopefully this one has no issues. Other one works fine just has to be plugged in :/ lol

Also managed 4.4ghz on my 4770k, but quickly bsod. Sits happy at 4.3 on 1.3 v did r.4 on 1.4 so might just need tweaking more.

Just adding a little update for you as requested Psypher5 :D

Installed the MSI Z97I Gaming AC today. First thing i would say from using both these boards the Z97 is very different from z87. Needs lots more volts and does not seem to like fine tuning the ram down , which im a big fan of normally. So once i realized this i began to OC properly on the little board. :D

So went in straight away 4.2ghz = 1.152v / 1.11v ring / ring freq 38x rest on auto.
No problems at all. :D Even managed to get my mem down to 10-11-10-28-1T 1.7v

Then tried 4.4ghz ( was my highest on z87 ) little trickier , needed more 1.252v core, more 1.16v ring / ring freq 40x rest on auto. Finally got there , no immediate problems.

Now testing 4.5ghz ,, much more 1.28v core / 1.185v ring / 40x ring freq rest auto. And to be honest its doing ok. No restarts or anything off. Will test harder this week.

Did boot at 4.6ghz but bsod on me ,, will secure 4.5 then work on this....

Really happy with the MSI board at the moment , great looks and seems to perform. I will keep my 4670K till broadwell now i think.

stop it :P Not got chance to take it back now, have an interview on thursday so no way I can drive to ocuk. I'll stick with it and see if it matures! Not in a position to keep faffing now :(

well done though. Knew I should have waited! Oh well

To bad the Element q & MI 008 just have 1 expansion slot. My card is dual slot & one of those cases would look awesome to have my sys. in. I found a case almost the same from china, with 2 slots, but I typed in the man. in google & no company site. It is a Qubz case, all I know.

Lol man ,,, :p:p

Just updating you as you wanted. Wasn't trying to tempt you.

You'll see the Asus will come good mark my words. It may be a bios update needed that's all. I have seen a few z97 asus boards of all sizes have some OC issues , that board is capable of 4.6ghz easy. But it's weather the CPU can manage it on haswell. I bought this 4670k knowing it could do 4.8ghz under water. So 4.6ghz on air is about right.

Nothing to lose! :P Job interview is a bit more important at the moment, but if I land that there will be more hardware coming in soon :D lol
